G14

The G14 get a lot of stick from lots of people, including Reds, but I think they're great for our club. Sure they're a sinister and shadowy organisation but they are currently the only bulwark against the autocracy of FIFA, who I consider a far bigger danger and a lot less useful to Liverpool.

G14 are only interested in making money, they're not really interested in the good of the game but I think we need to be selfish and consider the benefits to Liverpool. They supported our right to defend the European Cup when every other w*nker was hell-bent on denying us this.

They've held UEFA hostage and in doing expanded the CL, making it more lucrative. Meaning we've made a lot of money out of it.

Now they are supporting the right of the clubs to extort money from FIFA should our players come back injured from international duty.

I think it's great that we have a voice in deciding the future of European football. The only thing I dislike about it is that ManUre are part of the club. Maybe we should gang up with Arsenal and get the Mancs thrown out.

I don't like it, but I'd much rather be on the inside than the outside.

I also fully support their motion to get money from the international teams that make millions out of the players that clubs have to pay the wages and medical bills of.

All those dumb friendlies we've had to put up with mid season to make money for the FA under the lie that sven needed them to prepare for the WC, yet he still never managed to consider a formation that is not built around Rooeny.

you are joking right?

I'm serious. I can see the negative side to the group but I can also see the many benefits they bring to us. And our interests come above everything else.

The idea of G14 as a pressure group is a good one.

Think they are overstepping their bounds into territory they ought to stay away from at times though.

I do hate having the Mancs in there.. They used to veto our proposals to the league something chronic in the 80's.

I heard (Bit grey this.. sorry) they even blocked us from having the 5 badge on our jersey along with a certain sour blue bunch who got knocked out of the CL at Anfield.

Still they're a powerful team too regardless.

Chelsea couldn't have made such a request through the G14, since they're not part of it. The longer they're kept out, the better. Chelsea must not be allowed to gain any influence at the top level of European football bureaucracy.

It was in a Premier League meeting last year. All except 2 agreed to our request. Seems you need 100% in the voting.

I'd rather we ask for an 18-star badge to have on our league shirts.

Id hate to see it on our league shirts to be honest.

I was about to state how we should be chuffed, as we have more votes than most other teams in the group, when I just read that the more votes you have - the more it costs you -

From their official site:

G-14 is funded by financial contributions of the member clubs. The amount of the funding is determined by the annual budget. 50% of this amount is borne by the member clubs in equal shares. The other 50% is divided into shares, corresponding to the total number of votes of the eighteen member clubs, with each club assuming the number of shares corresponding to his number of votes. The number of votes of each member club is calculated on the basis of the titles won in the three major European club competitions (European Champion Clubs’ Cup/Champions League = 2 votes, UEFA Cup and former Cup Winners’ Cup = 1 vote)."

.... so THATS where all the CL winnings went !

G14 are right in testing the water for their clubs to receive money from the national FA's for when the players are away.

The days of international (country) football being all about the honour (with little or no money made) have long gone.

Obviously there are some national FA's who couldn't hope to pay their top stars, since it would bankrupt them. But limiting this to England, if the FA are making hundreds of millions from the game, then I think it's within the rights of the clubs to ask that their players are paid by the FA when they are on international duty.

G14 are progressive in testing this out IMO.

Much of the press the G14(+4) get is down to the paranoid briefings of UEFA officials, expressing their estimations of the groups purposes ands ideas, so much so that I wouldn't be surprised if Dan Brown's next book used them as central subject matter.

I don't see what our badge has to do with anyone in the premier league. ffs, man city have 3 stars just because they look good. i can't imagine we need to ask permission for what out club crest is.

we dont which is why we have had small gold stars on the European shirts for a while. This is about wearing the Uefa blue badge on the sleeve. Its pretty trivial in the grand scheme of things.

as much as i'd like to wear the uefa badge of honour in every game, i thin it's probably right it's kept for europe. however, it would be a good thing to introduce something similar to the prem though, for tems who's won the league 3 times in a row and for each 5 or 10 times of winning it.

I wouldn't say that UEFA were paranoid at all, the G14 are only interested in their own needs (which you might say, is fair enough), however the more influence they acquire then the more likely the European super league. This, IMO would only lead to the destruction of the domestic leagues in Europe.

How would you feel if in ten years time our 23 (fingers crossed :) ) titles are derided in the same way as the F.A. cup, UEFA cup and league cup triumphs because the only trophy that will matter will be the super league title?

Would you bother going to/watching on telly any of our games if there was little chance of us winning the super league/being relegated (because the ONLY way the G14 will start the break away will be if there's a guarantee that none of the teams can be relegated and other, non-member clubs taking their place).

In a practical way, it's a good thing that we're on the inside p****** out, but I would much rather the G14 didn't exist at all.

A European Super League doessn't make long-term financial or sporting sense, and nobody knows that more than the the clubs in the G14, I think it's a real red herring. The main real issue is International football, and who should get what from the revenues, ie should FIFA and UEFA pick up the wages whilst players are on national team duty.

G14 don't just want money for international weeks though. If a player gets injured for an international side they think the club should be 'compensated'. One of the things discussed is an FA paying the wages for the entire period a player is out. If Drogba got injured for the Ivory Coast, their FA couldn't afford to pay his Chelsea wages. Therefore poor countries might not be able to play their best players. Which would be s***
