I agree Stevie. Thought Palace were a bit hard on him to be honest, but they had every right to be I guess.

This time they'll take the money for sure.

Bid's been accepted according to SSN

8.5m is that?

thought Jordan said he wanted 12m? not that i thought he was likely to get that much but thought that's what he'd said..

We should be in there. He will score some goals for Wigan.

i wouldn't mind seeing him playing for us..

I will sleep easy once someone else signs him

He's not that good.

He scores a lot of his goals from penalties.

The teams actually in for him says everything about just how good he is.

He also makes a lot of those penalties. A goal is a goal.

Wouldn't be surprised if someone bigger doesn't come in now. It's now known that Palace have a price.

I bet no-one bigger does.

Wigan, Bolton, Everton - that's his level, and stretching it at that.

We've got the season tickets in now, they aren't arsed.

I'd love Jordan as chairman of my club, Rooney would still be here if he was. £8.5m? Bit of a piss take that but if Whelan the w***** is willing to pay it then fine.

Hilarious bit in the Echo about Everton trying to come to an agreement with the other clubs that they would all bid the same and then let Johnson decide where he wants to go.

Natutrally, they were told to f*** off as Wigan at least were able/willing to outbid them.

He'll score over fifteen league goals next season and may even go beyond twenty and even to twenty five. The lad is a goalscorer.

The lad is a good goalscorer, but still don't think he's worth that kind of money mate. Don't think Defoe or Bent would be worth that kind of money either and (in my opinion) Bent is certainly a better goalscorer and player.

He scored 15 goals in 35 appearances in the Championship this season.

In the Championship with a team that was supposed to challenge for an automatic promotion place and which ended up in the playoffs, so was not a struggling team. He'll face far better defences in the Premiership and will not be with such a strong team, respectively speaking.

Are you including pens?

Are you including pens?

14 pens have been included and he won them all by himself don't ya know ;)

Yes. Bearing in mind that only the following got fifteen goals or over this season in the league:

Thierry Henry Arsenal 27

Ruud Van Nistelrooy Manchester United 21

Darren Bent Charlton Athletic 18

Frank Lampard Chelsea 16

Wayne Rooney Manchester United 16

Robbie Keane Tottenham Hotspur 16

It's hardly a modest shout. And five of those six take penalties don't they?

He has hardly been fit all season and Dowie hasn't done a very good job at all.

He has been a consistent goal scorer in a poor team, end of. He runs his nuts off every game and causes havoc.

Can't believe people are so excited about Darren Bent as a better option to be honest. Reminds me of Marcus Stewart, Michael Ricketts, Clive Mendonca etc. One good season and everyone goes nuts.

I just see John Aldridge all over him, Jim. He's got real pace and has done it in a poorer side than Charlton or Spurs. He knows where the goal is. If we are looking for a quick natural finisher I think we'll struggle to find better. I'm not as convinced by Bent.

If we are looking for more than that then fine, Defoe has more potential and may be a better option. But Johnson is incredibly fast, instinctive, a real worker and mentally very strong. And he can take pens.

Don't think he's at the same level as Aldo but I see where you're coming from. Think we'll have to agree to disagree about Bent, but I really amn't sure that we should be going for either. I would like us to be pushing the boat out further to be honest, although I accept there are a lot of practical limitations to that.

There isn't all that much further to push the boat. We need two forwards - one with pace and the eye for a goal and another better (or pacier) but (realistically) less physically imposing version of Crouch. Beyond Owen who is there for the former? Possibly Torres. Huntelaar? I've never seen him. Maybe Forlan (who I'd be made up with) and then you are into the catagories of Bent/Defoe/Bellamy etc.

Torres could even be the alternative to Crouch or Kuyt could, or Nistlerooy could. I'd have Torres if we had Johnson because I really think that Johnson will score goals wherever he goes - it would take the pressure off. But neither Defoe or Torres, say, offer much in the way of guarantees. We can't really get this one wrong. Johnson would offer a certain stability of performance. Solid, very quick, very hard-working and knows where the goal is for the second signing to be a bit riskier.
