I think he wanted to stay with Feyenoord for another year out of loyalty more than anything else.

...is true, which is commendable to be fair - also he was getting lots of advice like 'you shouldn't move in a World Cup year' etc, and Feyenoord also made him Captain and hiked his pay, promised new and better signings and a realistic challenge for the Eredivisie - none of which happened really, and they also failed to qualify for the CL, losing out to Ajax in the weird dutch pre-qualifying system.

Re van Basten - he was not so much worried about him coming to Liverpool as he was him going to Spain in the first place. Kromkamp has featured in 19 games (including a Cup Final!) which is a sod of a lot more than before he came to us. I'm still not convinced (yet) that in the end he will move, as on Dutch TV and radio he's said he's very happy here and gets on with Stevie G, Riise, Crouch and has become good friends with Finnan - but hey, early days. and the window isn't open yet...maybe it depends on who arrives.

Kuyt has spoken admiringly of the so-called interest from half the clubs in the Premiership. Getting thoroughly fed up with reading about how great it would be to join Newcastle etc...

Not warming to this guy in any way at all.

Although it could be just his agent at work...

I know not many would've seen him play much, but any idea what his control and ability to old up the ball are like?

I wonder whether, if he arrives, we'll play one up-front and he'll in effect, replace Crouch. Not knocking what Crouch has done for LFC but Kuyt to me seemed like the more 'ideal' candidate for that role at the time because he's more than likely a similar player but with a bit of acceleration... Is it just me or was Marco van Basten's reported advice to dirk a wee bit selfish?

Having seen him play for a couple of times i am less impressed with kuyt than i was a year ago. This fella is a strong centre forward who scores goals and likes to move into channels but his finishing isn't that great. Good but not great. Perhaps that's what van Basten was moaning about?

He's certainly an improvement if nando goes though...

Kuyt and Bellamy would be my choices. I think those two would provide the pace, strength, aggression and goals we've been lacking from our forwards this season.

They are certainly very different players, Bellamy being lightning quick and skilful, Kuyt powerful, strong and with an eye for goal. I actually think they'd play well together, and with Crouch and Fowler would make up a foursome of completely different striking options, enabling Rafa to tailor his strikeforce for each game.

I think disregarding any other deficiencies, Morientes is too nice, and Cisse doesn't work hard enough or put pressure on opposition defences. Bellamy and Kuyt on the other hand share a combative nature, and would give us real edge we've been lacking up front.

I know Bellamy is an @rsehole, but I'd trust Rafa to get the best out of him, and the lad's talent is unquestionable. Kuyt's attitude is fantastic - the fans would love him here I reckon.

You've got to think 'if I was a defender who would I hate playing against', those two would be a nightmare for different reasons.

We have a strong physical presence all through the defence and midfield - we certainly need some pace up front, but we also need a goalscorer and to make opposition defences work. Those two would tick more boxes than any other combo of players we are linked with.

You could bring in Torres instead of Bellamy and retain the same balance, but you are paying 3 times as much and he isn't proven over here. The potential gains are outweighed by the huge risk.

and a pacy home grown player (probably Defoe).

good post, pretty much how i see it.

Think a player like Bellamy would also be important in any games where Gerrard starts on the right. Bellamy(or someone like him) makes a lot of runs into the channels(particulary drifting to the right).

Kuyt has the first touch of my dog, and I for one don't see him better than Cissé - in that department at least. Maybe I'm being picky, but I'd like a player with a bit more flair/skill up front.

I Bellamy has a buy-out clause of £6M then I could easily be persuaded. Obvious feisty character, but if he came here you'd have to think he would be glad for the chance to show what he could do, and he'd work hard to keep his nose clean.

Kuyt and Bellamy would be just fine by me. It just looks like we have more links to Defoe than Bellamy, but I'm just guessing.

But does your dog have a good touch or not?

Something dodgy about all this.

The Morientes to Valencia with Di Viao coming the other way sounds a lot more plausible.

Posted

ive only seen "hey you guys" once, a Holland game against Italy, and i thought he was terrible, gut thats only 1 game, so it`d be a bit naive of me to make a proper assumption on someone from 1 friendly game

as for Bellamy, no doubting the w***** has the skills to play here, but so did Stan Collymore and look what happened after we signed him, simply put, Bellamy would be a disturbance in the dressing room

Di Vaio is crap. Didn't he move to Monaco after Valencia or was that on loan?

Never seen Kuyt play but just read that he scored 71 goals in 101 games for Feyenoord which should mean he is a more than decent finisher.

I hate to say it but I'm reluctantly coming round the idea of Bellamy, Rafa will get the best out of his strength and movement and you cant deny he hasnt an eye for a goal. Just need to curb his natural tendancy to be a nob.

Isnt there a clause in his contract that can see him move to a CL qualifier for £6m?

Any one from Bellamy, Bent and Defoe would do me.

Dont speak/read Spanish myself, but that link was given to me by a mate of mine who happens to be a Valencia supporter. Said Nando has already agreed a 3m euros a year contract. Take that for what its worth....

Edit: Think this has already been mentioned. Sorry.

The only way I'd come round to signing Bellamy, would be if a clause was included in his contract, stipulating that everytime he acts like a c*** or I think he's acting like a c***, I'm allowed to kick him in the nuts.

I've been saying for a while that I think he'll end up here, it just makes sense, he's the only top striker available that's within our price range and is good value.

agree, everything about it has just felt right and likely since we were first linked to him.

Jeez, are Bellamy, Bent, Defoe and Kuyt are only options?

well, along with Torres and Knox's appreciation of Andy Johnson (which i happen to think is well founded fwiw) they're the only one's currently being named..

..who would you personally like to see??

That's a full time job for two if he only had one nut.

We have no idea who Rafa is in for yet. It's just speculation.

It wouldn't surprise me to see some cheap Spanish unknown come in.

What about Shevchenko, surely he's still in the frame....
