David Beckham admits "the whole nation" is willing Wayne Rooney to be fit for the World Cup - and gave a glimmer of hope by revealing the striker "looked fine" when he was dancing at the England skipper's party.

 

Beckham hosted a high-profile soiree at the weekend ahead of the tournament in Germany as England's preparations are centred around the Manchester United striker's recovery from a broken metatarsal, with a scan due this week.

 

Beckham said: "He was at my party the other day and he looked good, his foot looked fine.

 

"He was dancing with his girlfriend and he was fine then. We'll have to wait on the scan of course.

 

"The whole nation is willing him better. To have Wayne Rooney in your team, not just as a player but as a person, we need that.

 

"The world needs to see Wayne Rooney on a stage like the World Cup," Beckham told Sky Sports News.

I'm kinda caught in between wanting England to do ok so the press will make the summer bearable here in England, and wanting them to do crap and fall at the first hurdle like any self-respecting Irish person..

 

above all, i want a good competition with good football, none of our boys to get injured and if england win it then so be it, if they deserve it then fine..
