IgPig Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 (edited) Palace Reject offer Crystal Palace say they have turned down an £8m offer from Premiership side Bolton for striker Andy Johnson. Bolton put the highest bid in for the 25-year-old who is also being chased by top-flight rivals Everton and Wigan. But, even though Eagles chairman Simon Jordan seems prepared to sell Johnson, he only appears willing to do so if the price matches his valuation. Johnson is currently with England's World Cup squad after being named as one of the stand-by players. Everton were interested in Johnson last summer, but he was persuaded to sign a new deal in a bid to ensure Palace made an instant return to the Premiership. But Palace were consigned to another season in the Championship after their loss to Watford in the semi-final of the play-offs last season and clubs have quickly moved to try to lure Johnson. Everton and Wigan are each believed to have tabled £7m offers for the player. Johnson endured a frustrating season during the past campaign with injuries limiting his outings but did manage to score 15 league goals. But he came to prominence after his 21 goals in the 2004/2005 Premiership season following a tally of 28 in Palace's previous promotion campaign. ------------------- Seems Fat Sam has some money. £8m is a lot for Johnson though. Guest Kev Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 If Johnson's value is £8m, then I hope people don't moan if Owen comes back for £12m.
Knox_Harrington Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 I'd have Owen for twelve ahead of Johnson for eight but there is no other forward playing in England who has been linked with us (bar Nistlerooy) I'd have ahead of Johnson this summer.
Earl Hafler Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 I can't understand how Palace think Johnson is worth more than £8m
Knox_Harrington Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 I can't understand how Palace think Johnson is worth more than £8mWe haven't the faintest idea how the offer was structured. I can't believe that Bolton could offer £8m.
Guz Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 No way will Palace get more than £8m. He'll probably go for around £6m given recent similar deals (Crouch and Beattie).
Maldini Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 I can't understand how Palace think Johnson is worth more than £8mHe scored 30+ goals in 03/04, was the main factor in them being promoted to the Premiership which got them way more than £8m. They'd have to spend a fair bit to replace him (if that's possible). The only way he'll go for that, or less, is if he asks to leave.
Guest Kev Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Johnson is not worth £8m, we all know that. However if that is the fee that someone has to pay for him then more fool them. Personally, for another £4m I'd take Owen any second of every day.

smithdown Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 We haven't the faintest idea how the offer was structured. I can't believe that Bolton could offer £8m. That must be all the European money they made. On one player? Doesn't seem to add up does it?
Rimbeux Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 I can't understand how Palace think Johnson is worth more than £8m Because somebody will pay it. Three clubs putting £7m-£8m on the table, one will throw in a player or two to put the value of the deal into double figures. No way will Palace get more than £8m. He'll probably go for around £6m given recent similar deals (Crouch and Beattie). Bet they do, as they've already turned that much down, and the man doing the negotiating is Jordan not Lowenstien.
Kahnee Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 No. Just an opinion. That's good enough for me. OWEN'S SIGNING :woohoo: :woohoo:
