Guest Red Mist Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Nothing p*sses me off more than good, honest Reds believing that one of the most technically limited yet massively over hyped players I've ever seen is better than the man who can do it all. I am of course referring to Keane, the technically limited fella, and Stevie, the man who has more talent in his little toe than that overrated ManUre pr*ck. Sooner or later everyone is going to wise up to the fact that superior technique and skill are more useful attributed than just "drive" and "determination" alone, intangible things which without technique and skill, is ultimately useless. Stevie has it all, I don't care what the "experts", Mancs or misguided Reds say, Stevie is 10 times the player Keane is. Purely because Keane can only do a fraction of the things Gerrard can do, while Stevie can do anything Keane could* - only better. *except winning the title
fyds Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 I've thought Stevie G was better than 'Keeaaannnoo' for a long time.
Armin_Tamzarian Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Gerrard is clearly the more talented player but I've yet to see him match the consistency Keane showed at his peak nor his understanding of the central midfield role. Of course Gerrard is improving all the time.
L19red Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Keane in his prime was one of the best in the world, by contrast Gerrard is without doubt the best in the world.
Ste M Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Gerrard is clearly the more talented player but I've yet to see him match the consistency Keane showed at his peak nor his understanding of the central midfield role. Of course Gerrard is improving all the time. That's spot on. Stevie doesn't quite show enough maturity at times when playing central midfield, he can be a bit too gung ho.
The Hitman Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 (edited) I don't believe this "technically limited" stuff. What part of Keane's technique was limited?Granted,he was no Ronaldinho, but he had a good touch,a good shot and a good pass. Because he couldn't beat fifteen million players he was technically limited? And yes, I think Gerrard's marginally the better player, just because he offers a little more than Keane could. Despite that, they're very different players. Gerrard is far more attacking than Keane. Edited May 20, 2006 by Pretty Boy
Andy @ Allerton Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 That's spot on. Stevie doesn't quite show enough maturity at times when playing central midfield, he can be a bit too gung ho. Now THAT is the funniest thing I've ever read - are you seriously suggesting, at any level, that Keane has never been 'a bit too gung ho'? Arf!
fred milne Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Gerrard is clearly the more talented player but I've yet to see him match the consistency Keane showed at his peak nor his understanding of the central midfield role. Agree with that. It frustrates me that someone who has had his best ever season playing at RIGHT MIDFIELD has to be continually compared to players such as Keane and Souness who played their best football sitting in front of the centre-halves.

Nowhere near as much as Stevie is (wether it be by design or not). You're not honestly suggesting that Keane was the same type of player Stevie is are you? Because you'll have just trumped me in the 'funny' stakes Edited May 20, 2006 by Ste M

The Hitman Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 You have to be joking - the number of times that Keane went in like a mental are beyond count - and that's exlcuding Haaland!I don't think he means that,I think he's referring to Gerrard sometimes neglecting his defensive responsibilities. Gunning it forwards when perhaps he should be a little more conservative.I think.
Ste M Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 You have to be joking - the number of times that Keane went in like a mental are beyond count - and that's exlcuding Haaland! Since when did 'gung ho' refer to knee-high tackles?
Ombudsam Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Agree with that. It frustrates me that someone who has had his best ever season playing at RIGHT MIDFIELD has to be continually compared to players such as Keane and Souness who played their best football sitting in front of the centre-halves. I think that's as close as you get to fred milne being angry on the internet
Spike Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Gerrard is clearly the more talented player but I've yet to see him match the consistency Keane showed at his peak nor his understanding of the central midfield role. Of course Gerrard is improving all the time. Agree to an extent that he doesn't show the same positional discipline but perhaps that's because he has more to his game or maybe a hangover from the fact he is mr versatility? Gerrard, like Carra in terms of recognition outside of the club is a victim of their own versatility imo. Few players can save a game like Carra and few can turn a game like Stevie.

Gunning it forwards when perhaps he should be a little more conservative.I think. From the Keane point of view, it's very hard to carry out your defensive responsibilities when you're back in the dressing room after yet another red card!

Totally untrue. Try watching a game of football some time.
Ostrich Man Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 gerrard would put you right on keanes ability and your usual "overrated" guff. he couldnt make his admiration of keane any more plain in any interview ive read of his where the subject comes up still those "experts" (players, ex-players, managers etc) obviously cant read the game like you.

Keane was a muppet..
neilem Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Didn't Carragher have Keane in his dreamteam on FourFourTwo? So... I'm guessing he rates him somewhat. Keane has aged, so of course Gerrard would be better now, they also play different roles on the pitch.
Ostrich Man Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 what do you expect him to say.. Keane was a muppet..no id expect "hes boss la"
The Hitman Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 How small-time do threads like this make us look. Keane was a great player, end of,I'd have killed to have him in our team.Gerrard is also a great player,Mancs would kill to have him in their team. They're different players.
madaboutlfc Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 no id expect "hes boss la"as good as Keane was for Man United.. he didnt play for one of Europes elite which our Stevie is doing... its not right to compare the two..
