Cry baby!

You've just resigned for a bunch of losers.

Someone can resist the allure of the mighty Barca then? :o;)

I wonder how many similar posts were made about Stevie G on fan forums all over the world last summer.

"Losers" hadn't got the same ring to it when used about the team he re-signed for, though, what with them being European Champeens and all.

That's true, although I can't imagine it stopped too many Chelsea fans with their cries of '37'.

Strange comment from him at the pres conference: "I've never played in Spain and never will. This is my last contract."

Is he intending on retiring at 32 then? Seems a bit young.

I think he stayed for the reasons he stated, he knows he has more of a chance of suceeding at Barca and Arsenal although on a up will struggle.

Good Man Henry

i see figaro's good mate ;) has been pontificating again:

Johan Cruyff believes striker Thierry Henry may live to regret his decision to snub Barcelona and stay at Arsenal.

The Catalan giants hoped to clinch a deal for Henry after beating Arsenal 2-1 in the Champions League final.

But Henry, 28, opted to sign a new four-year contract at Arsenal, a move heavily criticised by Cruyff.

The Nou Camp and Dutch legend said: "In the cold light of day, without looking inside his head, I think that he has made a mistake."

Cruyff added: "He has taken a decision in the heat of the moment when you should make them with a lot of consideration.

"With his track record of what he has achieved in France and England it only lacked a spell in Spain to give him the rubber stamp. This spell could have been at Barcelona.

"There are big decisions to be made in every footballer's career. This was the moment in Henry's life, not just as a player but as a man. He could look back and regret it.

"Barca would have changed him. Henry would have had a big opportunity at the biggest club in the world to make himself regarded as the best player in the world.

"There would have been pressure on Henry. Everyone would have been looking to see how good his football was with the biggest club in the world but now we will never know. It is a pity. They wanted him."

Cruyff believes Barca will find it difficult to defend their European and Spanish crowns next season.

He said: "Next year everything starts again from zero, nothing has been won and it is easier to arrive than to maintain success.

"For this reason it would have been good that Henry signed because he is a great player."

Henry should be applauded for sticking with Arsenal. Don't know why he's getting stick for this noble decision.

Noble to the tune of 120 000/week?

and (reportedly) the insistence that they offer his 32 year old mate ires a two year extension rather than the one year option they offer as standard to all 30-something players. A rule that's always been fine for Bergkamp amongst others.

How very noble of him, staying as long as they shatter both their wage structure and scrap their long established policy on contracts for older players.

He is Mr Arsenal, if he goes to Barca he will win more but still they will always have other Big Names. By Staying at Arsenal he becomes the Loyal "God" that can do no wrong. I am sure his paycheck will be healthier at Arsenal as they don't have to shell out a huge transfer fee.

So I suppose the £90k offered to Stevie had absolutely no bearing on his decision to stay?
