It?s normally associated with the best up-and-coming comedy talent, but this year the Edinburgh Fringe is to play host to The Krankies.

The four-decade veterans of the variety circuit are to play a one-off gig on August 28, the very last day of the festival, in the George Square Theatre.

Ian and Jeanette Tough are performing to mark 40 years since they first took to the stage, at Glasgow?s New Metropole Theatre.

Ian said: ?I hope that in Edinburgh we get a chance to prove that good old-fashioned variety is certainly alive and kicking, even after 40 years of The Krankies.?

They will be supported by their former Crackerjack colleague, Stu Francis.

Producers Zena Barrie and Michelle Flower said: ?We are delighted to be working with our childhood heroes.?

The Krankies are not the only showbiz veterans their company, It?s Alright For Some, is taking to Edinburgh. They have also persuaded Bernie Clifton ? and his ostrich ? to perform at the Underbelly on August 15.
