I fink the league is overall.

England has maybe 4 really good teams. Then there is a big dip in quality. With far more tactically and technically limited teams.

From the Primera games I see, even the mid-table and lower Spanish teams have far more technical quality about their play. And far more gifted players.

And from a biased point of view, as a neutral - I prefer watching Spanish football :D

Well if if had been the other way around, it would have been championed by our pundits.

So yes.

irrespective of the two european finals, i still think that the technical quality and tactical nature of the football is more enjoyable in la liga than in the premiership. not sure it's possible to qualify the term 'better' when comparing leagues.

....but having said that - all we need to do is look back to last year, when people where getting suicidal about Spanish teams doing so badly in European competiton. Shows how quickly things change I guess.

Still, when durge like Middlesborough get into an European final, time to look at the WAFFA cup competiton, cos it doesn't give it much credibility to have a poor team thats struggled in its own league getting to and then getting whopped in a final. Scrap that stupid group stage for starters!

The general view over here is that the players in the Premier are far more honest and there is more widespread respect shown towards the referees in games.

English referees are continuously pointed to as an example to follow.

That the games are played at a faster pace with less stoppage time.

Spanish sports journos think that the Premiership fans regard corners with the same enthusiasm as being awarded a penalty

The diving thing is one thing I cannot understand. Time and time again I see players moaning and argueing with the ref and opponents acusing others of diving, but when one of their team do it, it's accepted and applauded

Does this mean that La Liga is better than the Premier?

Genuine question (before the dicks start)

i think it is anyway.

Like if Middlesbrough and/or Arsenal had won, the Spanish League still would have been number 1.

They must be selective in the matches they view

Mike Riley is certainly an example. So was Jeff Winter

From what i've seen, that would seem to be true

Wouldn't go that far, but a corner invariably results (for the most part) from a period of pressure/piece of attacking play, so that gets recognised by the crowd

Well a lot of people literally all over the world seem to enjoy the PL more because of the battling style of play and fast action - never typified better than the FA Cup final the other day, of course.

But I'd say the Spanish League is 'better' above all because the players are, generally speaking, better i.e. better at football.

The point that hit me earlier this week is that Real Madrid still managed to come second in La Liga this season...and for me that says a lot about the quality (or lack of it) of that League.

The league as a whole is imo better in Spain. There are simply more clubs with better footballers than in England.

When you are talking about which one is the most competitive, I am still inclined to say the english league though.

We have four teams at the top who, as arsenal and we have demonstrated, are all capable of going all the way. I don't think Valencia or Real Madrid, the only real competitors to Barcelona, are at the same level these days. And the fact that a team like Deportivo have fallen by the wayside has further decreased the competition. I do think you will see english teams feature far more prominently in the CL than the spanish teams over the next two years. That we have had two finals in a row with two differents teams and a third team in the semis for two years running prior to this season is a testimony to that, imo.

I think the English league is more gruelling and takes a lot more out of the players. In Spain the games seem less hectic and less physical. Boro had 11 games in the last 3 weeks of the season and it clearly took it's toll. Barca didn't look that great against 10 men until 75 minutes.

In Spain, this season, there were two points separating second and fifth. Eighteen separated those two positions in Spain. That shows that Spanish football is more even because the top teams have more problems with the smaller clubs in the division.

I think the top few teams in each country are on a pretty much on a par, but once you get outside the top five or six Spanish football is stronger.

Couldnt agree more.

I love Spanish footy, but i hate the total lack of respect for honest play that exists. And the referees are the worst i've ever seen at being fooled by players

Barcelona would not have won the premiership

I completely agree with you. They are brilliant if they are allowed to be. The Blackburns & Boltons never mind the top clubs would really rattle that team, especially in winter.

Don't think Chelsea would have won la liga either......especially playing the likes of Valencia, Sevilla and Barca in the heat of the spanish summer.......

chelsea would walk it, so would liverpool and manure

But in England a team with no decent central midfield and the worst side they've had for 10 years finished 2nd with 83 points.

If there was a league between the bottom ten clubs in England and the bottom ten in Spain the English teams would fare far better IMO. The lower end Spanish teams may have better technical players but in the past few years the standard of defending in England has increased dramatically.

Even the likes of West Brom and Portsmouth are/were relatively well organised most of the time.

The same can't always be said for Spain.

I think the English league is stronger, if only because there's more chance of a shock than in Spain.
