Why appoint a referee to the most prestigious and biggest European competition to a referee who has been judged not good enough to referee in the World Cup this summer ?

He was on the shortlist but never made the final cut.

Crap ref but didn't do either team any favours so can't say any bias.

Spoilt the game with the Lehman sending off.

Why play a goalkeeper who leaves the referee with no choice but to send him off ?

One decision he got right. In the 90 minutes he was awful.

I think it did spoil the game but at the same time it was also the correct decision to make. I also believe that the ref was in his rights to play the advantage, allow the goal and then send Lehmann off too. The ref was pretty poor throughout.

lehman had to go, he had no choice with that. Goal should have stood, but does anyone know if he blew his whistle before Guily finished it?

Lehman said when interviewed he heard the Ref blow as soon as he brought Eto'o down.

The referee was shockingly bad tonight, it wasn't even biased in any direction, he was just totally woeful.

How did the ref spoil the game, it was a text book sending off, he had not choice. Awarding the goal and sending him off would have spoilt the game as a spectacle more, and it still would have been within the law.

I thought the ref was 'poor'. I would certainly subscribe to having Europe's top 'Officials' as the set for the CL final. People generally agree on the best refs and that Norwegian wouldn't trip off the tongue. Just get a decent set of non controversial people. That linesman pic has a danger of tainting the whole refereeing set tonight. That bloke should never have been courting low class publicity at all.

He made one serious mistake - Arsenal should have been down to 9 men when Eboue dived for the freekick which led to Arsenal's goal

Aye, how he stayed on the pitch i'll never know, he also should of been booked again for his foul on Ronaldinho but got away with it. He's a dirty little t***.

total overreaction about the ref

At f***ing last, some sense.

And from such an unlikely source.

I thought the ref did a decent job. Maybe he let a few things go, but he made some allowances for the cr@ppy weather.

He was dead right for the red card if he blew his whistle. His linesman should have told him about the dive by Eboue.

He was not great, but he was not awful.

By the laws of advantage and 'spirit' of the game Barca's goal should've stood and Lehmann received a yellow at worst. That was the referee's worst mistake and should've been dealt with in the same manner as the referee letting Cech stay on after he fouled Baros for Garcia's goal in the semi-final.

Maybe Eboue should've walked, but if that should've been the case what was Oleguer still doing on the pitch after 60 minutes - continuous, cynical fouling and ironically when deserved booking did happen it was for about the only tackle he made where he won the ball !!

Agree with Henry aswell, he got no protection from the referee and Marquez at least should've been on a yellow by half-time for going through the back of him. The final insult to Henry was when he also got booked for winning the ball.

If any of that lot had happened against us we'd have been spitting blood and this place would be in meltdown.

Sorry, but the referee was sh*te and not befitting of a game of that importance and prestige.

Does anyone hold any refereeing qualifications? I'd love to hear what the 'correct' decision for Lehmann should be had the ref decided to let play go on. Yellow or Red?

Just before the Eboue incident, Ashley Cole also performed some unsportsmanlike diving antics.

I bet Wenger muttered "A mental note: I didn't see that, I didn't see that, I didn't that..." to himself.

Totally agree with you. There was a lot of hassle about that at half time.

Without a doubt the ref was one of the worst I've ever seen in a European Cup Final

Well said that man - biggest club game of the season ruined by what seemed a simple call

Lehmann was sent off for deliberatly denying a goalscoring opportunity, if the ref had played advantage and allowed the goal then Lehamnn obviously wouldn't've denied a goal scoring opportunity as a goal was scored and should have got a yellow card at worst, the ref could have done either, but remember he only had a split second to make his mind up and would have been slaughtered no matter what his decision would have been.
