reinstalling windows - advice needed

My computer has been getting progressively slower and quirkier over the past six months, so I believe it is time for a re-install.

 

One thing I would like to avoid is having to re-install all the programs on my pc. I assume it is not as simply as just copying my program files folder to an external harddrive and then copying it back after re-installing?

 

Any advice for what to do to succesfully copy and copy back with a minimum fuss? Or should I be looking to re-install those as well as come of them could be the reason for slowing things down?
