Gravy Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Tghose of you who bumped into a jubilant Murphman on Saturday will already know this, but last Sunday I ruptured a calf muscle playing football. It's been bloody agony all week and I'm bruised from knee to ankle. I've been limping around but had three lots of physio so preseumed I'd be okay for the cup final, where I was taking my extremely excited 8 year old to his first trip to Cardiff. Saturday morning comes and my leg has seized up completely and I can hardly move it. No way I could have driven to Cardiff and then walked from whereever the car would have been parked to the ground and taken up what was by all accounts a fantastic spec for the match. I had to break the news to a distraught 8 year old at 08.00 Saturday. I swear I don't think I have ever felt so guilty and bad about anything in my life. He was okay a little later and we watched the match on TV together but I owe him one big time. Anyway, I called Murph at 08.05 and gave him the good news - he and his lad had 2 tickets to the cup final if he wanted them so at least they went to a good home (sort of ) and Murph turned up at 09.00 to collect them and give little Max a Kewell shirt handed down from his lad. I still feel crap about it now, not that I missed it coz I've been to loads of finals before and will again, but for my youngest who should have ahd a day to remember but didn't.

Gutted for you, Gravy - at least we know there'll be plenty of other cup finals for your lad.

cymrococh Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 My calf really hurts from scraping it on my seat celebrating Djibril's goal. At least I was there though

cymrococh Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 My cheek hurts from the bottle that hit me as well, luckily it was plastic.
Figaro Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Gravy - sorry to hear that. There'll be more finals. Sevilla 2008 for example
RBM Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 I am in agony this afternoon, the pain of mulitple injuries recieved falling on the poor bloke in front of me and subsequent scrapping me off the floor when I fell over the seat infront of me celebrating our last minute equaliser. I was the only one injured and he saw the funny side of it fortunatley.

I was working in Italy about four years back and was flying back on a Weds.morning to get home to take my lad to a League Cup game that evening. I was 'asked' to stay two extra days in Italy and had to make a call to tell him that he wasn;t going to the match. Most horrible phone call I have ever had to make. Can't imagine how bad it must have been to tell him that he was going to miss the final.

Even now I'm sitting here racked with guilt every time I think about the match Saturday Saturday meant very little to me Saturday watching it on the TV with him next to me. As the game got better and better, in a funny kind of way it got worse and worse, thinking this should be one of the best days of his life.
StevieC Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Murph and you are close so presumably he knows your nipper- why didn't he take your kid or was this payback for some gout related catastrophy in the past?

Stom Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Well not quite the same joy and pain but here goes.. Spent Saturday watching the Final at home with my wife (a Hammer) whilst, during extra time and pens at least, trying to get ready to go to a charity Ball.. Taxi arrived at 5.50pm with one of us trying not to look too euphoric as our journey took us past pub after pub of seriously pi**ed off looking hammers' fans.... So that is the joy... and the pain? Well, the charity 'do' had an auction.. can you guess yet? One of the lots was a signed pic of a certain XAbi A on duty in Istanbul.... as it got mentioned there were calls of "50p" "burn it" etc matched with appropriate boos and hissing from the largely west-ham mad pantomine audience... Anyway, I am now the proud owner of the said pic for £300GBP - ouch! As i said when I collected it - it was only worth £200 at 3pm but he is an FA Cup winner now!!!

Murph was originally looking for one ticket and I was going to take his lad, so when two came up it was only right that he got to take his boy with him. If there were three tickets he would have gladly taken Max along, of that I have no doubt.

Guest Kev Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 I never got a ticket for Ant or Liam or my nephew, it's the first time since the Birmingham final that I have 'let them down' and I felt really guilty and still do.

Man that's a real tough break alright, but it's no your fault so don't get too down over it. Was a really nice gesture from Murph to give him the Kewell shirt though, poor guy. I played in the same match, I play in it every year and I wasn't the oldest player either, a scouser called Tom Williams played, Tom is 54. Get jogging, Hally, you're getting a call up next year..
