Despite seeing his side lose the F.A. Cup final on penalties to Liverpool after the match finished three-all after extra time, West Ham manager, Alan Pardew, was rightly proud of the effort they put in, and the football they played in what was an unforgettable Cup Final.

They might have lost, but West Ham have no reason to feel anything but the greatest pride in their contribution to one of the all-time classic F.A. Cup Finals.

Manager, Alan Pardew, might have been gloomy following the heartbreaking defeat on penalties, especially as Paul Konchesky's late goal in normal time looked to have killed off Liverpool, but he pointed out, "Obviously I'm very disappointed with the outcome of the game, but nothing can hide the pride and respect I have for my players after the way they have represented West Ham United today. It was an effort by the team very much in line with what we've been about all year. Liverpool are a team packed with internationals, with players who have won medals and have huge reputations, but we put all that to one side, got about them, and almost pulled it off. It would have been a fantastic achievement if we'd won it, because it really would have put the seal on what has been a memorable season for the Club. I told the players that they had been a part of perhaps one of the greatest finals ever, that they could take great dignity and pride in their performance and that the first trophy is always the most difficult to win. I was in a similar situation with Crystal Palace in 1990 - when we came within eight minutes of winning it. Today it was three, and so the feeling of disappointment is something I've known before. To be honest, I felt comfortable towards the end, because we were defending quite well, they weren't creating too many chances, but then a special player pops up and produces a special moment."

 

"When you play teams of the quality of Liverpool, the unexpected can often happen, but, we still picked ourselves up in extra-time, and then we had that amazing moment in the final minute, when Reina produced a fantastic save and the ball fell to Marlon, who was unfortunately on one leg at the end. It was a great game, we are all aware of that, but it was also a fantastic spectacle for English football. Our game has been criticised in the past, but the two sets of fans were absolutely first class and it really was an occasion that will live long in the memory. I'm not going to say who deserved to win, because that would be unfair on Liverpool. Maybe we both deserved a victory and, in terms of plaudits and the recognition we gained - we won aswell today?"

Agree was in a bar full of them watching the game (Liverpool Street...Baracuda...) and even though we were pretty much the only table in there supporting Liverpool there was no aggro and some good banter.

A bloke I know runs a lovely little bar in Vilamoura, Portugal and they regularly have players in around this time of year.

 

Was over there last week and talking to him about the Cuo Final, and he reckoned Pardew was the most down to earth genuine bloke you'll meet.

 

And based on Saturday, I'd tend to agree.

 

If we don't win it again next year I'd love to see them do it. They deserve it.

Very impressed with the way he conducted himself throughout the day. He's building a very handy team there. I really like Reo-Coker, Ashton, Benayoun and Gabbidon. I'd gladly have at least two of those as squad players for Liverpool.

All us oldies are cool with WHU also. They have always done things the right way. They can play some good football and the fans appreciate class. They have had their own fair share of class players over the ages too.

And to top it off, most of them also despise the same rubbish we do. CFC THFC and the mancs.

 

We're not West Ham fans but credit and respect where it's due.
