libero Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 Darren Fletcher Quote SUPERSTAR Darren Fletcher has shown up the turncoat kids who left Scotland's Under-21 plans in tatters this week - by asking to play in their crucial Euro 2007 qualifier in August. National team boss Walter Smith was raging on Monday when a barrage of suspect late call-offs meant Maurice Malpas (right) had to cancel a week-long end-of-season training camp. It means the Under-21 gaffer now only has two friendlies - Northern Ireland and Turkey this week - to prepare for the tough two game campaign against France and Slovenia at the start of the season. But gutsy Fletcher, who still qualifies for the kids' side, has privately approached Smith and told him he wants to be included for the first of the games on August 16. Smith - seething at the lack of passion for the Under-21s from those who have called off - said last night: "Darren's keen to play and that just shows you the measure of the guy. "He asked me last week if I could make sure he was included. "He knows how important for the Under-21 team these games are now there are only two qualifying matches to get to the finals. Well done that man, says a lot for him really in this day and age, its just a pity he plays for that lot.

Maldini Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 He's just desperate for a game, hasn't featured in months. He was on trial with us as a kid, turned us down for them lot. Fate sorted him out though.
Guest 70400 Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 He would join a pub team if it meant playing. He is desparate to kick a ball.

Fate sorted him out though. He still started 41 games for Man U this season (and 8 for Scotland). He only got dropped when Ferguson moved Giggs into central midfield. He's one of Scotland best players recently, and a few mates of mine who support ManU are annoyed that he can't transfer his form for Scotland to them.
