normally I wouldnt be so small time, but too many reds suggested everyones favourite Spudface was better than Ste G in the Gen last week. Can we now agree that after lifting yet another trophy, the best English player is self evident? The greatest Cup Final goal ever. next year, if completes the set. PS I am on my shone. sorry for the s*** layout of the post.

Rooney isn't even one of the top ten players in the world. People are stupid. He's rated so highly more on what he could become than what he is, which is a fantastic player, but not yet the messiah he's made out to be.

Sorry, like but I still think Rooney is the better player

They're a little different, aren't they? I mean one is a striker and the other's a midfielder. Not really comparable. If I had to choose which one I'd have in my team, then it'll be Stevie, no doubt. He's a superhero who rescues us whenever we're in deep sh*t. Rooney doesn't have the ability to lift his team the way Stevie does. Can anyone think the last time ManUre were in trouble and Rooney produced a miracle to save them? Nope. Our Stevie has done it plenty of times.

Rooney is definately one of the worlds top ten players.

I'd still rather have Stevie, but Rooney is immense.

Sorry, no he isn't. It's all hype.

Lunacy, complete and total.

Fair enough, he's there or there abouts, not in my top ten though, and not in Gerrard's class.

Show me the medals to prove it.

Rooney carried the Mancs on his back this season. Certainly not saying he's better than Gerrard but he's definately up there in the world class bracket.

Carried them on his back? RVN got 21 league goals despite missing a s***load of games

What did he carry them to? Last time I looked there's no trophy for coming second.

Until Rooney can drag a team from the brink of death in two cup finals then maybe you can compare, but as far as im concerned Stevie is the man.

What has Rooney achieved?

Gerrard is better, but Rooney would be absolutely perfect for us.

yeah.

they're both f***ing boss but Gerrard obviously is better.

and even if you thought Rooney was better you wouldn't bleeding say it!

A big performance v Fenerbache on his debut, some cracking performances in random games on Satirdays in a League which United have gone on to not win, a couple of very good performances v Arsenal and perhaps opne against Chelsea, a freakishly good few games in Euro 2002 (followed by practical anonymity in the WC06 qualifiers when he didn't score 1 goal) and several successive European performances which make me snigger up my sleeve when the hype-muppets start sqwuaking "WORLD CLASS"

= Wayne's career.

Have I missed anything?

And Steve.

Well do I really need to spell it out?

If you want to talk about international football then rooney has performed to a higher standard. Jumping up and down trying to prove your best player is better than someone who is 6 years his junior isn't my idea of the best way to big a player up.

Could Rooney have scored THAT goal yesterday at that exact moment i.e. when we needed it the most? NO. Nor has pie boy ever exhibited any signs of being a superhero. He's a great player but not a saviour like Stevie. And that's a fact.

Is Rooney a better player than Gerrard - no. (And is unlikely to reach the consistently high standard Gerrard hits, winning games and trophies for his team. I'm just sorry if he doesnt make the WC to prove that to the hype merchants)

That was the question, that's the answer. (And that's the conjecture)

Rooney is at worst, potentially as good a player as Steven Gerrard (not as complete mind).

Whilst he's world class and will get better, I honestly don't think he'll ever become as good as Gerrard, and hence never truly live upto the hype.
