Bootle Buck Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 Unbelievable. We went 2-0 down before we even got started. Came back and then went behind again. Stevies last minute cracker and then an amazing penalty shoot out. I still can't get my head around it. It was so much like Istanbul inclusing the score and end result it is remakable. I will have to watch it again later when I have somewhat sobered up.
Dmitch Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 What a fecking match tho must admit i though it was over after it got to 2-0 but just like the final i stayed and im so so glad i did
Bootle Buck Posted May 13, 2006 Author Posted May 13, 2006 It was wierd but at 2-0 I still thought we would come back. To be honest with 5 minutes left I thought we had nothing left. Then it sank in we are loaded with CHARACTER
Cam Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 I'm slightly down from it. I was just so tense, nervous, angry and shattered from it all. I couldn't enjoy the end at all. Watching the montage at the end of the Beeb's coverage helped a little and seeing the reports on Sky constantly is making me relax and appreciate it all. I can't even understand how people are saying it's the great Final for 50 years - I thought it was an awful game. Clean and tremendous dedication & commitment by both sets of players, well reffed, players dead on their feet, plus the chance of an upset and a dogged determination to come back - but an awful game. Tecnhnically and in terms of enjoyability. Or am I just a miserable fecker? I think alcohol and MotD is what I need.

You do need lots of alcohol but that still won't make it a great game but WE WON FFS. Ref was good though.

dyl Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 With 10 minutes to go I thought 'it's over' but then 2 seconds later I kept thinking 'remember Istanbul' - that night at the Attaturk was more than a remarkable European win - it's given these current players a real sense of belief that nothing's over till the very end. F'cking superb game today. Gerrinthere!
smithdown Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 Very weird. Reina has a nightmare then makes a magnificent last minute save...then cleans up in the penno's. What is it with us?

Big G Superhero Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 Very weird. Reina has a nightmare then makes a magnificent last minute save...then cleans up in the penno's. What is it with us? We seem to have these rare games where the normal Liverpool team and formula don't turn up, and our defence looks about as watertight as Sunderland's, but it only serves to get us scoring a brickload

Dule Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 i felt we had a chance till the 85th minute when i seen Gerrard limping!! i turned to my brother and just said NOW WE ARE f***ED!
Guest Sabre Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 It was an anticlimax when I saw the lads with the trophy - I just had nothing left. It will sink in soon though
Guest Makaveli Smith Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 I officially burned out just before the last peno... I was going insane and then when we actually won it I just sta there for a few secs and started speaking in tongues. I believfe the moment of it all was gerrard scoring that late goal... I ran downstairs and dragged my sister up to watch the replay, always explaining that he couldnt even run but somehow managed to rip a shot from 35 yards right into the far side without a chance for the keeper. I made bloody well sure that the sister who doesnt like football saw and appreciated the defining difference between gerrard and the other apparent world class players like Lampard. Full moon, Half moon. Gerrard
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 i remember niothing, bladdered by k/o (which is 10am here)
Stevie H Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 I know what you mean, Istanbul was great and all bu my most vivid memory is how badly we defended in the fist half man we were f***ing awful first half. so, so bad.
melia Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 after they scored their second my wife said "that's it game over". Cue me ranting about how we were gonna bladder them 5-2 and that they were s*** but we were just playing s***. Had no doubt, at any stage (ok, I did get a little worried just before the end of full time).
passater Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 Have we actually ever lost a peno shoot out? I remember winning againt Roma (84), Portsmouth (92), Brum (01), Spurs (Carling Cup last season), Milan, today....

passater Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 think we have won 8 out of the last 9 shoot outsOh come on, what were they?
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 here's the equalizer (part 2)91 mins: GOAL! Liverpool 3 West Ham 3 (Gerrard) Steven Gerrard, the injured Steven Gerrard, who can't run properly, scores a spine-tingling goal. The ball broke 35, maybe 40 yards out - it was the second ball from yet another long punt forward - and he just boomed an unbelievable volley into the far corner. It swooshed and swerved like a missile, homing in mercilessly on the side netting in the far corner. Truly, truly awesome I'm afraid to say.
Cheesecake Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 (edited) There is something really special about Liverpool isnt there? I was thinking after Istanbul that that sort of game doesnt happen to anyone else, The Mancs, Arsenal, Chelsea for all their money cant buy games and nights like that Maybe as a fan I hype it up much more but I really think that those games (Milan for one, today for another as finals) are a few in a lifetime. Mind you Luton and Fulham last season were an example of the growing never give up attitude of this team. Thank f*** I'm a red, I'll die a happy man with the memories of the past 12 months, though I hope to see a few more. "They dont do things by halves this lot do they?" Too right Andy Townsend, too right. Long may it continue! Edited May 14, 2006 by DPD1973
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 After Istanbul, we were taught - never give up. That day, I didn't. Today, after the disallowed goal, I really did think "can we..." I really need to learn. It's NEVER over
Cheesecake Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 were the ladys fat who were singing at the start? No? Thought not!
