I would be pretty happy with Darren Bent. He has scored very consistently this season, and playing for Charlton he doesn't get the service that he would in front of Liverpool's midfield.

I would prefer Bent to Jermain Defoe, who is another name that is being bandied about at the moment. Defoe sometimes scores fantastic goals, but he is not reliable enough for my liking.

Completely agree. Not for £12m though. Didn't Charlton buy him for £4m?

This seasons stats:

Charlton Athletic

Apps As sub Goals Yellow Red

Total (Club) 44 (1) 22 2 0

League 36 (0) 18 2 0

FA Cup 5 (0) 2 0 0

League Cup 3 (1) 2 0 0

European/Others 0 (0) 0 0 0

1 in 2 striker

Dirk Kuyt please, strong, aggressive, won't be knocked off the ball easily and can score L, R and with nogin'

Darren Bent is fine, but £12m is taking the p*ss. Sounds to me like a plant by his club/agent to set the price for future discussions.

£4m is more realistic.

£12m gets you Owen. Proven top level quality.

£12m gets you Kuyt, international regular, not a potential one season wonder.

IIRC, didn't he sign from Ipswich for £2.5mill? We should cut out the middle-men and trawl the lower leagues for a proven goal-scorer. Lee Trundle anyone??? :P

Rafa paid 7m for Crouch though...

Bent is overpriced when you factor in that we won't recover a penny of his transfer fee in jersey sales. Mind you a forward line of Crouch, Bent and Ricketts would be crying out for Haliborange to sponsor us.

Please God no.

Good season and all that but no thanks.

7-8m would be good business.

Thats because there aren't many players that can do the same job as Crouch, and whilst 20 goal-a-season strikers are rare there are few more "possibilities" available.

From the bbc

They're not the only strikers on the move, however. Craig Bellamy and Darren Bent are heading Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez's summer shopping list. Shaun Wright-Phillips and Barcelona's Ludovic Giuly are also targets. (Daily Express)

To make way for them, Benitez is prepared for a major clear-out at Anfield after the FA Cup final. (Various)

The Liverpool players reportedly most in danger of being fobbed off elsewhere are Djibril Cisse, Fernando Morientes and Djimi Traore (The Times)

Not many comments beyond complaints about the projected price and suggestions that Kuyt would be better. I've not seen too much of him this season. Has anyone been impressed with particular qualities he would bring to the team, or to a partnership with Crouch? Thre's a suggestion in the Independent that we would get both Bent and possibly Defoe.

Bent is a decent player but I hope we dont sign him, and certainly not at £12m. If he has another good season next year then maybe but i'm always wary of signing players after one good season.

Selling Mori and Cisse and buying Bent and Bellamy would improve us perhaps. But not by much

Bent is a lot better than Ricketts...and Cisse for that matter.

There was a lad on another forum who mentioned that he was close to a lot of Bents family and that he was defo coming, but for a fee of around 6 or 7 million.

Bent and Bellamy would improve us perhaps. But not by much

How can anyone possibly know that?

It's just big name syndrome.
