Gravy Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Just spoken to a former international manager who was telling me when he spoke to Ferguson after the CL final year. He said Ferguson was absolutely pig sick when we won in Istanbul. He was spitting bullets - "The worst team ever to win the European Cup EVER" he was ranting. "You're not jealous are you Alex?" "You're f***ing right I am" he explodes. Man, I've been chuckling for ages thionking of Ferguson exploding about it.
Cobs Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 mebbe we should cheer for an Arsenal victory next wednesday, might send the old cn*t over the edge
fyds Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I did think if Arsenal won, then Wenger would be on a par with him in themain having done half the time and and with a fraction of the cash. He'd go cherry methol.
JRC Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Although - with the strange 'Letter to Benitez' story, Ferguson appears to have been more gracious over our victory than Jose (obviously) or Wenger. I've never heard any public comments in which he dismissed or derided our acheivements.
£440,000 Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Yeah, the letter writing incident casts a different light on it. Maybe in the heat of the moment he was raging but after the fact he realised what an achievement it was. I can't stand the man but he deserves some kudos for writing that letter to Rafa.

Ostrich Man Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 In an ideal world, get him watching it in the same room as Thatcher. Hopefully he'll take her with himwouldnt get him in the same room. Andy will be confused as to why.
Boca Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 The letter sounded a bit snide as well though didn't it? Analysing our tactics through each round as if to say "I know how you did it, I'm dead clever me!", the kind of thing a drunk at the end of the bar might do going "Oh yeah, I did that once it was easy" Think you might be on to something there.
Cooldude Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 In an ideal world, get him watching it in the same room as Thatcher. Hopefully he'll take her with him They might breed and bang out evil twins...
Maldini Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I always thought the letter was more of a "I could've done that if I'd wanted" statement from Ferguson
Gravy Posted May 9, 2006 Author Posted May 9, 2006 Yeah, the letter writing incident casts a different light on it. Maybe in the heat of the moment he was raging but after the fact he realised what an achievement it was. I can't stand the man but he deserves some kudos for writing that letter to Rafa. Didn't all the managers write to Rafa congratulating him? Why should Ferguson get Kudos for it? Of course it's also possible that the chap talking to Gravy just added his own spin a bit to make it funnier. Nope, I don't believe so. He said he was absolutely choked by it. It was on the same night as Istanbul, it was a short while after. Sounded well funny though.
R A Softlad Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I always thought the letter was more of a "I could've done that if I'd wanted" statement from Ferguson Rafa handled it well though by expressing his amusement/confusion.
