what a joke.

Mourinho top boss for 2005/6

Monday, May 08, 2006

José Mourinho has today (Monday) been named the Barclays Premier League Manager of the Season. It is the second season running he has won the award.

Despite leading Chelsea to consecutive Premiership titles, its an accolade the Chelsea manager wasn?t necessarily expecting as he explained in an exclusive interview to Chelsea TV.

It is a big honour,? he said. ?It?s the consequence of Chelsea being champions for the second consecutive year but it is a surprise for me because during the season I couldn?t win one single Manager of the Month.

?We had a start where we won nine consecutive victories but I could not win in August or September.

?We had a lot of consecutive wins also in December and January but I could not get the trophy. So I was surprised by getting it at the end of the season.?

Naturally Mourinho wished to share the achievement.

?It is an individual award but it is collective. It is about the manager and the team achieving the target. I did it with Chelsea.

?At the same time I don?t forget the other people who also had very positive work and one of them could have been the winner.

?Mark Hughes did it with Blackburn by reaching the UEFA Cup. Pardew and Jewell did it at West Ham and Wigan by having a very stable season.

?Of course Man United, Liverpool and Arsenal wanted to be champions and they weren?t. Tottenham wanted to go to Champions League and is not going. Birmingham, West Bromwich and Sunderland wanted to stay in division but they were relegated so some did it and some didn?t.

?It is an honour for me and it is an honour for Chelsea because it is about the club and the players.?

There's at least 5 managers more deserving of it than him, in particular Jewell, Pardew and Hughes.

Edit: God Knows why its fecked up

He certainly didn't get it for his shrewd buys

SWP - 20 million

Essien - 24 million

De Horno 10 million

Compare that to Rafa's spending last summer

Crouch 7 million

Momo 6 million

Reina 6 million

Then compare the increase in points over last season and his masterclass over him in the semi and we could have a strong point for Rafa being the Manager of the Year.

I'd say Jewell or Hughes too.... Jewell probably just pipping Hughes I think...

its a joke having Mourinho, he has shown no progress over his previous season, actually less progress.... one less trophy

So he's won the award because he won the Premiership - spending huge amounts of money - with a side who won the Premiership last season and haven't won as much silverware this season ?

Poop poop.

Wigan were certs to go down.

Yeah Crouch has been money well spent!

is that meant to be sarcy? have i been :hooked: ?

all 3 of the Rafa buys mentioned there have contributed hugely to our improvement in the League this year

Jose's? not so much, although Essien has got a fair bit better from a dodgy start, the other two .... :nono:

I don't think much of Crouch.

It's irrelevant to compare Chelski's prices -- they operate in a market of their own.

If Jose doesn't win the CL, he may be sacked though -- PL won't cut it.

He makes some smarmy little backhanded comments doesn't he. Basically compares Ferguscum, Rafa, and a*** to Bruce, Robson, and Ball. Idiot.

At least it's one less reason for them to go round thinking the worlds against them and out to get them.

Just like George Graham in 89. For winning the League. On goals scored, despite the fact we won, drew & lost the same # of games, had the same GD & won the cup

Ah, but they are - what they can't accept though is it's with bloody good reason! :)

cant believe people are surprised really. As 'nice' as it would be to do the English thing and give the award to the underdog.

But his team did win the league yer know.

OK, so they haven't had as good a season as they did last year, but they still won the league.

Somebody has to finish top every year, it's not like it's rare that the league gets won like a treble or something.

If it was possible that every team had a manager with exactly the same ability, the team with the most money would win it.

So what exactly has he proven?

Not saying he's proven anything, in fact I think he feced up last year, cos he got his transfers very wrong and didn't actually improve the team. (Sadly I doubt he can fec up two summers running!).

But, what I was saying is that I don't get the surprise, that the manager of the team that won the league gets this award. It just kinds makes sense!

you could but you could also argue Benitez won the European cup last year, this year he'll win the FA cup. Not really the same achievement is it. fergie increased our points tally and placing....give it to him sure.

They broke that principle with George Burley - and it's daft just rubber stamping it with an additional award for whoever wins the Leage (which is what it was for years).

I reckon Paul Jewell should have got it.

Those of you complaining about the award and saying it should've gone to an overachiever like Jewell or Pardew - did you think it was right that Burley got the award instead of Houllier in 2001?

No, I think GH should have got it in 2001 (we won the treble) and Paul Jewell this year.
