Tom and George - Not Welcome Here - Sunday
PeeG replied to Spirit Of Shankly 's topic in Liverpool FC
Yes it was only a post on RAWK to let people know who weren't there what happened. Easy to make typos in all of that. Hardly anything to complain about. -

We have had it confirmed that it was Hicks that was in that Black Range Rover and he was turned away from the ground. -

We will be working hard to ensure we can track exactly where they are at all times. That is why it is important to e-mail Jay in case there is late changes. Also, if we miss them this time because they change their plans to get there earlier, then the next time they are here we will try again to stop them once again from getting in the ground. -

Amici with liverbird and Fiorentina logo. The problem was that a proportion of Fiorentina fans only want to be friends with us because they hate Juventus and of what happened at Heysel. They were using it as a way of having a go at Juventus. Not a way any friendship should be formed.

Looks like George will be over now as well.
-
It has definitely been pulled. Partly (if not more) down to SOS today talking to the club and other parties about it.

Information about mosaic on the official site http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news...th-kop-mosaic-1 Some information about the motives behind some people's wishes for the twinning. http://soccerphile.blogspot.com/2009/09/fi...l-rookwood.html http://theitalianview.tumblr.com/post/2500...orny-friendship You can't tar all Fiorentina fans with the same brush, but you have to be respectful to everyone and this is not doing so,

They are not thousands of miles away all the time. You will all be hearing more about our plans today probably. Just wonder if the club planned a mosaic tomorrow to dampen anything we do, but in the process have stepped way way over the line.

Who has made a banner then? Doesn't matter now who has been to what now. We have got a chance on Wednesday again to make our voice known. Lets take that opportunity.

No. Anything at the ground will be done by the club. We have the Christmas Do / Event to commemorate Shankly's 50 years on the 12th December. http://www.spiritofshankly.com/news/SOS-Ch...Event-2009.html -
Don't know what exactly was the reasoning behind this at all either. No one seemed to have an answer at the time, but the executive committee and Jay McKenna met with Ged Poynton and the Police to discuss these issues and as soon as they walked into the meeting Ged apologised for doing it. So as long as we work with them over being in the walkways etc and work round things like that we are fine to display any banner (obviously within reason). But all the ones that have been up previously should have no reason to be taken down.

I know you weren't having a go, just offering the viewpoint of ours when we look into ideas. I do agree about the season ticket holder issue. We have already planned to discus how to improve this in our next meeting. Leaflets have helped, the You're Not Welcome Here campaign should help. Travel has helped and I hope the Community stuff we do has helped as well. On the owner side and club I do feel we have achieved a lot with the membership we have already, but obviously can achieve more with bigger numbers. On the owner side, you have both of them keeping very quiet now, particularly Hicks after his ill timed interview before the Hillsborough Anniversary, neither stay in Liverpool now when they come to the match, and after the Hull City and Reserve Game confrontations Gillett left the United game before the end of the game. On the RBS side they made them pay up £60m, might not have been what we would have wanted, but got them to pay some money off at least. A bank like RBS wouldn't usually reply by letter about a companies dealings with them to the customers either. We are working on a few things in the background at the moment as well. On the dialogue side, we approached the club in Feb about season ticket prices and in April they were frozen (or reduced if you include VAT reduction). We passed on the hundreds of complaints we had about the PTS to Ian Ayre and the loyalty side of All Red was introduced. We are also up for the European Football Supporters Award (Release should be going on our site tomorrow) for our community work as well. Some of this will get lost in putting pressure on the owners, which in turn some people might not see that about us and obviously with me being the community officer it means that not many take notice of the work I may do, but it is one of our main aims and the union is the membership, and we will continue to put pressure on the owners. Different ideas need to be pursued and we will welcome any ideas or help on anything from anyone.

With the media, it is the same with society in general. It is impossible to keep the media printing our story day in, day out. Look at the ground share, not even talked about now. They just want to sell papers. We just have to create as many opportunities as possible. With the protests, it is a commitment to members that we would do something, but also a constant reminder that they are not wanted here. Keep quiet for too long and they think they can get their own way with things. Yes, membership does need to increase and we had things like with the leaflets which we will be doing again, but even with them and the facts included you have a protest covered in the press one day and the next day there is mentioning about Rafa spending an amount of money which is false despite what they said we are protesting about the day before. There is no easy solution but something we are always working on. This is why I try and get on all the forums as well to answer questions and why all members if they hear something said which isn't true then they should put them right, or if someone is wondering about a protest, then tell them what it is about. The Billboard fundraiser on here as well, will form part of a wider You're Not Welcome Here Campaign which should include some of the major forums spread over 3 key issues and trying to inform fans about everything. But then also sometimes the work we do on travel and in the community gets lost amongst this as well. Which needs to be relayed to non members as well.

But after the West Ham incident the risk of fines or worse is a big risk and not just a ban. Can't ask anyone to do that.
-
But also the stewarding and policing would be better. You need massive numbers to make a difference which isn't likely and would also raise safety and legality issues.
-
They took some at the Hull game, but have since apologised to us and said that they wont take them off us again (well unless it is really really offensive) and we have met with the police and they have said its not their job to get involved with it as well. So its all clear to take as many banners in as you want. This protest wouldn't be possible otherwise.

They are done on the morning of the game. The logistics are trying to do something on the night of the game when some people will come in with 2 minutes to go make it unfeasible. Would look fantastic, but no real way of making it work.
