Currently, I'd put Matip in with Van Dijk n switch Gomez to right back. TAA is getting sloppy defensively and got a roasting from Van Dijk at one time Friday.

Needs more than game time. I'd put Gomez at right back.but it's academic.

Think it is incomprehensable (sic) that we haven't tried for Coutinho on the basis of a 21 mln quid loan for the season. One of our front three is bound to have an injury in the next few months and Coutinho would slot right in - especially as he and Firmino know each other's play inside out. There's a big assumption being made about Keita anyway but he and Coutinho are different players entirely. I would bet that we will rue our lack of activity on this front at the end of this season.

I thought Fabinho was rather quiet as well. Reason they did well in the firsthalf was because it was an open door down their left wing. Interesting that we played better in defence after halftime with Matip on and Gomez switched to rightback.

Think our most pressing need is for a midfielder who scores goals. Bruno Fernandes? This report that Barca want to loan out Coutinho this season for 27 mln quid looks attractive - then it appears whoever does taken that on is obligated to buy him at the end of the season for the current asking price.

I was told ten days ago by someone who actually lives in Lille that his agent rules the roost. He was determined his client wouldn't go to another French club. He was also said to be determined to get himself some commission - to put it politely. He turned down PSG because they wouldn't play ball (excuse the pun), he discussed with Napoli who shied away from his proposal and, to be fair, Liverpool were interested, (despite reports of dissenting views within the club). However, their reaction was the same as Napoli's. I'm told the figure quoted, unbelievably, is just over eight mln! Imo,on the face of it, it's crazy we haven't gone in for him in view of the backup needed if any of our front three misfire for any reason, but I quite understand the club's reaction.

It's even more of a disappointment the way Arsenal have acquired him.....

And that's the nub of the problem. They are not going to be firing on all cylinders when they finally arrive back and I can't see Origi being an adequate replacement. Against this background, it's disappointing news about Pepe - although I understand Liverpool's attitude.

Is there a clause in the Coutinho transfer where we get first dibs if he leaves Barca? See Chelski enquiring after him if they can get through their transfer ban problem.
