Can't disagree that Rafa is largely responsible for us not being able to get out of this slump. However, the fact that we are in this slump is largely down to the owners. If Rafa was given the backing at the outset to purchase his primary targets we may never have been in this mess. If Rafa was allowed to buy Simao, Alves, Eto'o, Vidic, Barry and even Evra, we may never be talking about the likes of Pennant, Bellamy, Dossena, Lucas and Skrtel and the loss of Alonso. Who knows, he could well have delivered the League Title with his original targets. No Manager out there can really operate under those constraints. Wenger has tried that but has ended trophyless for the last 5 seasons. However, Rafa will only really be judged on the current sh*tty situation. Unfortunately he has not helped his cause with some questionable decisions and tactics.

I think you are right but then he is an absolute c*ck for doing that. Rafa has made some huge mistakes but that does not excuse the captain of the team being a complete b*tch. It seems he is blaming Rafa for us not winning the league under GH. I think Carragher is just as culpable.

I am not sure he would do much better than getting 3rd or 4th. People hail him as the Messiah but he has yet to prove himself at a big club with a small budget.

Just want to remind you that this is the first time we are going through a truly sh*tty period under Rafa. There is no doubt our form is pathetic and is unbearable. However, I am willing to give Rafa the benefit considering what Rafa has achieved over the last 5 seasons, I am willing to back him for at least this season irrespective of what position we end up in. Mr Ferguson went through two cr*ppy seasons with Utd but he kept his job (only just). But then again the two situations are not comparable as Mr Ferguson had far more to spend in his time. He was the biggest spender for two or three seasons in a row and could buy whoever he wanted. Unfortunately Rafa has not been able to do that.

Cant disagree with any of that. I agree with you on the standard of our performances even though you have occassionally gone slightly over the top with your criticism. That has been my only issue with you. Having said that, if you came out and said 'Todays performance was the worst in 50 years', you wont see me disagreeing with you.

Agree with that last sentence to some extent but yet again the owners screwed up his transfer plans. You have to take that into account. I am sure if Rafa was given the Alonso money he would have bought a back up to Torres and defensive cover.

Just out of interest, remind me how many times has Rafa been able to field anything close to his best XI on a consistent basis i.e. more than two games in a row? It is amazing how casually you can make statements like this team is good to suit your argument and you never really consider the fact that Rafa's best players have not been available/have played through injury for the majority of this season.

Me thinks Gunga's got a thing for Souness. It is the only explanation for why he continually keeps on overlooking Souness' appalling record.
