Brendan Rodgers - New Liverpool Manager Barnsey_10 is a t**
Malcolm X replied to Barnesy_10's topic in Liverpool FC
We should have made a run for Michael Laudrup. At least he bloody won something as a player and has a better record as a manager. The appointment of Rodgers was a classic 'dont have a clue about football but at least he will save us money' type of appointment. The reality is he hasnt saved money given that he has spent nigh on close to 50million with f*ck all to show for it. His style of play does not really have any plan to it. It almost seems like he says to the players "right lads, go out there, pass the ball to death, create some half chances and if we lose, I will say we were unlucky.' Bloody Hell our club is a mess. Well done G&H and effing Purslow. -

Except we d*cked Barnsley for the bulk of the match and were denied by some inspired goalkeeping by Luke Steele. Yesterday we were just plain sh*t. -
Come on now - we are in correction time now. Webb thinks he has given us a few decisions and feels he needs to balance things out.
-
Wtf - Lucas off instead of Allen. Come on Rodgers, sort your head out.

I am still not convinced by Rodgers but let's give him some time. His record in the transfer market so far is not too great......... combined 27 million spent on Allen and Borini could have been used to strengthen other areas of the team. -
He is a younger, faster version of Maxi Rodriguez.

It is such a shame that a fantastic manager and servant to the club and a great man to boot is getting treated like he is on this forum. Rafa had us dining at the top table with the big boys for 6 years. Right now we would be happy to be just polishing the legs of that table let alone dine on it. "There was no case at all for sacking Benitez and replacing him with Roy Hodgson, a sequence of events that has removed Liverpool from the front rank of football and should prevent anyone who put forward this two-point plan as a solution to Liverpool's problems from commenting on the club for some time." - Dion Fanning. Amen to that brother, amen.
-
There - fixed it for you.

That is just it though. Van Gaal may buy players to fit his style of football but will they fit into Martinez or Rodgers' style of play. The only person capable of adopting a particular style of player is Rafa and he isnt even being considered. In any case Van Gaal is more likely to have a more meaningful conversation with Rafa over players to buy than Martinez or Rodgers.
-
One slight technicality with all this. The manager has to have the ability to get the right players to play in a particular way. I dont think Martinez or Rodgers are capable of doing that.

There was a quote in Carragher's book of Gerrard saying to Rafa "You really dont know how bad we are,do you?" (or words to that effect). It puts it into perspective how much of a miracle Rafa worked with that squad. By God, he had Biscan looking like a world beater that season.

There are plenty of up and coming managers who show promise but very little by way of trophies to merit managing our club. We need a manager that has proven that he can a) manage a big club and b) has won major football honours (league, Champions league). In the absence of Guardiola, Mourinho, Ancelotti, Lippi, Deschamps, Capello (although I am not convinced by him) or anyone else being available, Rafa is the best available candidate out there and it would be an absolute traversty if he was not considered for the job.
-
As far I am concerned it has to be Rafa and no one else. People always point to Rafa's last season (when we finished 7th) and the fact that with the exception of 2008/09 season, we never really challenged for the league. However, when you consider the sh*t we have witnessed since he left, it would be fair to assume that Rafa had us punching above our weight. With a little bit more investment (instead of selling to buy), he might have helped us punch our way to the league title.
-
Not sure I agree with that. The fact that we were hovering above relegation was more to do with the ineptness of the man Kenny replaced than the quality of the squad. It could be argued that a spine of Reina, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson, Carragher, Lucas, Meireless, Gerrard, Torres is as good a starting point (if not better) as Dudek, Hyppia, Carragher, Finnan, Riise, Hamman, Gerrard. Yet Rafa won the CL with that spine and a few additions but Kenny finished 8th despite adding 110m of players. As for people saying Rafa should have been given more time, it was borne out of the fact that he only had one bad season in six. For the record I feel Kenny should have been given one more season to prove that he could turn around a shocking season. It is a massive shame that two of the best managers we have had at this club in the last 20 years were not given sufficient time to turn it around and reflects more on how bad the club is being run than anything to do with the respective abilities of Rafa and Kenny.
-
Or maybe it had something to do with who he was benched by. If Rafa or anyone else rather than Kenny had benched him, I can guarantee his reaction would have been markedly different.
-
Suarez and Coates I agree with, no chance with Carroll and Henderson. For the record, Riera played a key role in our 2008/09 season. Cavalieri was a back up goalkeeper and cost 3m. Johnson has been a key member of the team the last 2 seasons. So that leaves Aquilani, Keane and Dossena for a total of 35-40m which incidentally equates to one Andy Carroll. God forbid if Rafa signed someone like Andy Carroll. We probably would still be hearing about it until 2050.
-
7th from bottom you mean?
-
At least when we appointed Hodgson he had a semblance of a CV to point to (took Fulham to the UEFA Cup final). Martinez cannot even manage a small club, what is to suggest that he can manage a club as big as LFC.
-
Here's a thing - why the f*ck dont we appeal Doni's red card. If I am right in thinking, wont he be able to play the FA cup match with the bitters if we appeal. He might get an extended ban but hey who gives a sh*t.
-
He still has some ways to go to beat Carroll as some of the worst signings by LFC managers. Andy "F*cking" Carroll for 35million. Bloody hell.
-
I agree a perfect scenario may not exist but the least a manager can expect is either some backing in the transfer market or realistic expectations as to what can be achieved with the current squad especially when injuries mount up. Rafa was always walking into a disaster especially when Inter won it all the season before. In my mind, he should never have taken that job. Mourinho is an utter c*nt but one that is always backed to the hilt. He can literally buy whoever he wants. He had the backing at Chelsea, at Inter and now at Real.
-
And made him a 10 times better player than he previously was by playing him in the right position. Dont forget he signed a 23 year old Torres and made him into a prolific striker.
-
His transfer record still fares better than the 2 managers after him. Aquilani and Keane may have been expensive mistakes but Downing, Carroll, Henderson, Adams, Konchesky, Brad Jones are just on a new level of sh*teness.

End of the road for King Kev..... err I mean Kenny.
