One of the first games I ever saw from the Kop was very similar to Saturday's. It was 75 or 76 and a very poor Middlesboro side managed by Jackie Charlton were the visitors. Points in the bag, surely. It ended 0-0 but because we didn't have the internet, it wasn't regarded as the end of the world and no-one was questioning Bob Paisley for fielding a team incapable of scoring against Charlton's hugely negative side that day. As a side note, Charlton had a TV programme running at the time called "Play football the Jackie Charlton way" which produced many a wry Scouse comment. As I'm sure you can imagine.

How much has he changed? I got a huge shock because he lives up the road from me and I see him round all the time. I also thought I knew what Mickey Phelan looks like from his playing days but it's like it's two different people. When the guy I see around came on telly and they introduced him as Mickey Phelan, I almost fell off the chair in amazement!

A win against Man Utd and a win against Stoke. S'obvious.

I saw David Johnson walking towards the ground yesterday. Hmmm..I wonder....

I was discussing this very point with the lad who sits next to me and we came to the conclusion Stoke probably wouldn't come out a bit more if they went one down. They would have come to Anfield almost expecting it to be 3/4-0 and so at only 1-0 they would have played the same tactics knowing they were in with a chance of nicking a point near the end from one of their set-pieces. Then again, maybe we're just cynical auld arses who'd have done that ourselves if it'd been our team.

Never mind our corners, what about the opposition's corners? Why on earth do we allow all the opponents' outfield players to get in our half or even our box by sticking every one of our players back in defence? If we left Torres and one other on the half way line, the opposition would be forced to reduce the numbers of their players in our box as they'd have to put three or four on our players.

Hang on a minute here. It's not all about Liverpool is it? Stoke came with a game plan which worked but I'm not seeing much credit headed in their direction. Okay, it's stiffling. destructive football that would have the fans deserting in droves if all teams played like that but what option did they have? They utilised their best game plan to its maximum effect and are leaving Anfield with a point. Liverpool were unable to break them down and that's the story of the match. Well that and the goal we did score that was chalked off by a man not in a position to make the decision he did.
