  16. (The SOS login has been used as it is not allowing for a new account to be registered, and the below message is important) 20 years ago, 96 men, women and children went to a football match and never returned. In memory of those who lost their lives on that tragic day, the bereaved families, and those who endure the painful memories of that day, music stars from across the city, along with some Liverpool legends, have come together to release a single in their honour. The famous Kop song “Fields of Anfield Road” has been recorded with an additional verse remembering Hillsborough. It will be released on Monday 6th April 2009, and it is hoped the single can reach the charts ahead of the anniversary. Even if not, it shows the memory of that day will live on, and the 96 will never be forgotten. The single will be available for download from i-tunes, or can be purchased from HMV in-store, or online. The release of the single has been supported by Liverpool FC and can be heard on the club’s website at http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N...090404-0942.htm. To read more about the song or to download the song from 6th April, please visit http://www.fieldsofanfieldroad.co.uk/. To purchase the single online from HMV, please visit http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetail...&sku=960316. *Please note, whilst the CD can be purchased from LFC Club Shops, only songs downloaded from i-tunes, or purchased from HMV will count towards the official chart position.
  17. Spirit Of Shankly, the Liverpool Supporters Union, will be holding its Inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM) this Sunday, commencing at 11:30am in The Olympia, West Derby. The AGM is an important milestone for the Union. It allows us to ensure the committee is properly and democratically elected, and for the committee and the Union to take direction from its membership. These processes and formalities are important, to see the Union continue as it should and to ensure it is not just in place in 5 years time, but still going strong in 50 years time. This meeting also takes place just over a year from our very first meeting at The Olympia, on 16th February 2008, when the name and the objectives for the Union were agreed upon, marking what has been a significant year for us fans deciding that enough is enough, and its time that our voices are heard by those within our football club. Sunday's AGM and the recent elections for positions on the committee are important. The process will allow for energy and fresh ideas from new committee members, and will allow continuing committee members to progress current issues. However, the Union isn't just about the work done by the committee. The membership is vital to the success of our aims, and the membership will be called upon, not just to support action, but to work with committee members, supporting their role, contributing ideas, and sharing the workload. This will allow greater involvement from the membership to the achievement of the Unions aims. Spirit Of Shankly has come a long way in a relatively short space of time. We have implemented required practices and a working structure that will allow us to be successful, and we will continue to grow, learn and develop. We have worked on a number of important issues such as the campaign to free Michael Shields, and on long standing issues such as ticketing and travel. Importantly, we have also kept up the campaign to rid the club of our present owners. We have met with them, and we have protested, loud and angry, and the situation to them and to anyone else is clear - We want them out and we will continue to work towards this until it is achieved. They are still here but we remain confident of achieving this aim, and seeing Liverpool Football Club run by fit and proper owners. So come along on Sunday, whether you have supported the Union from the very beginning, or if you are still unsure and want to see what it is all about. There is no better opportunity to see the transparency and democratic nature of the Union for yourself. One year on - Let's work together, to make sure the coming years are just as successful, for the Union, and more importantly, Liverpool Football Club. Spirit Of Shankly [The AGM and procedures relating to it, require us to keep to the Agenda that has been sent out. No new items are allowed to be added to this at this stage. There will, however, be an opportunity for 'General Discussion', where questions that members may have can be asked and answered. This will take place once the AGM meeting has been formally closed]

  19. http://www.spiritofshankly.com/news/Mass-M...ruary-2009.html Spirit Of Shankly, the Liverpool Supporters Union, are pleased to announce details of our next Mass Meeting, to take place on Sunday 1st February, prior to the Chelsea game. Starting at 12pm, at Zeligs in Liverpool One, the meeting provides an opportunity for us to feed back to members on the present position of the Union and for us to discuss recent matters with members, involving the current ownership and running of the football club, as well as other important issues. If you would like to discuss a particular topic at the meeting, please email details of this to admin@spiritofshankly.com along with your views. Or raise it at the meeting as "Any other Business". We will endeavour to ensure all topics are discussed. We are currently enquiring via Arriva about the possibility of running additional bus services to Anfield from Paradise Street, following the meeting. For any fans remaining in the City Centre to watch the match, the owner of The Raven (Albert Dock), a Union member, has offered a free complimentary drink (on production of a voucher to be distributed at the meeting) to anyone watching the match there. We note the continuing stories in the newspapers about the ongoing situation regarding the manager, Rafael Benitez, and his proposed new contract. We believe such a situation could have, and should have been avoided, by a much improved running of Liverpool Football Club. This, we believe, is only fully achievable by new owners along with a new board. Regardless of opinions on individuals, the position of manager of Liverpool Football Club should not be undermined, especially during this crucial stage of the season and while we are challenging for silverware. This subject and future direct action will be discussed in full at the meeting. Agenda to follow. The AGM will still be taking place on 21/02/2009
  20. http://www.spiritofshankly.com/news/How-to-nominate,.html How to nominate. Fri 09 Jan 2009 Hopefully you should have received a nomination pack, sent out by the Electoral Reform Services Ltd. The envelope is clearly marked "Electoral Reform Services Ltd" in the left hand corner. Just a few quick points regarding this stage of the elections: 1) Each eligible member can nominate a person (Union member) they wish to stand for election. 2) Another member must then second that nomination. 3) The nomination is then accepted by the person proposed, who fills in his own manifesto on the back of the form. In no more than 200 words he or she can say why they want a role on the committee, what special skills they would bring to the mix and what makes them think they're the person for the job. The nomination form must be received by Electoral Reform Services ltd, the Election Centre, 33 Clarendon Road, London, N8 0NW, No later than 5PM ON MONDAY 19TH JANUARY 2009. Please use the pre-paid envelope provided to return nominations. Any nominations received after this time and date will be ruled invalid. Following nominations, providing more than 15 people are nominated, a ballot paper will be sent out allowing all members who had joined the Union up to 21 December 2008 the opportunity to vote for their preferred candidates. Thanks Spirit of Shankly
