In hindsight was it unfair to sack Houllier?
LondonRed replied to Mr. Biscan's topic in Liverpool FC
QUOTE(LondonRed @ Oct 8 2009, 13:50) no way, i hated our the times we had with him at the club. I can just imagine you pissed off at the 5-4 UEFA CUP final and when Owen scored that second against Arsenal in Cardiff. "BOOO this is rubbish. Did you really do this? After 5 trophies that season ?" At the time of winning no, actualyl stopping and thinking logically about football after the celebrations it was time to get back to reality, we werent good enough under him. loads of crap signings, And loads of good ones too Hyypia, Dudek, Hamann, Riise ,Henchoz ,Gary Mac, Babbel, Developed Gerrard and Carra etc. read one of the next posts, i already said there were some good ones destroyed fowler b******s. your opinion, he f***ed fowler and helped with the decline of owen, didnt know how to treat goalscorers - even jari litmanen had a rough time with us and he had more skill then most of the squad at the time and spent loads of money on crap players. The current manager like all managers does this too. Just look at Pennant for a great example of 7.5 million pissed up the wall with no return. pennant is a poor example, for the most part, rafa has been able to make a profit oon several of his mistakes, he has had serious trouble getting rid of GH's crap though - how much back for diouf? rafa had to get rid of all that s*** houllier bought bar the defence and even then had trouble getting money for several players because no one wanted them.9 out of the 11 of Ged's signings if I remember won the Europen cup so it it's a fallacy it was a team of midtable cloggers. dudek -gone, finnan-gone, risse-gone, hamman - top class but gone, cisse - gone, baros - gone, kewell - gone, hyypia - top class but retired, traore - gone...GH might have had a hand in bringing gerrard through but rafa has made him the best in the world, same with carra. the rest of them bar hyypia, didi and possibly finnan werent good enough hence the reason why they are not here now! under rafa we are now once again a european power, playing better football, he's been able to mould world class players and has had us in a convincing title race for the first time in ages. Kinda like Ged did once too right? youd be happy to win the uefa cup every season and have no one remember you for not being in the champions league? he challenged for the league once - not convinclingly, we didnt play good football with him and we werent a european power under GH -

agreed those players were brilliant - there were a few players that did stand out hence the reason why rafa held onto them but the rest were complete crap.. diouf, cheyrou, diao, traore, le tallec, vignal, dimode etc etc opened a multimillion pound academy and done nothing with it, failed to quailfy for the 03/04 champions league. you guys can say what you like but the teams he put together were not of liverpool class we never convincingly challenged for the title and as good as the feeling was at the time we were never going to be anything better then winning cups -

heard on the radio the other day - torres record at home = 33 games 30 goals (in the league i think)
-
maybe we can get some decent beers instead of the bottled flat crap we have to put up with before the game..i doubt it though, carlsberg will probably still stay as minority sponsors of the club like candy etc
-
i dont think the criticism is fair, admittedly he has made a few mistake but no more then anyone else, and in regards to when he's playing for us i think its more of a case of him getting settled in the defence and finding the line. any of the few mistakes he has made are not because of technique or calamity passes etc but more because of positioning or starting positions somthing which will come with time especially when the back line is stable. i remember arbeloa needing a few games to get used to our defensive line when he first joined to.

all thats left now is: Pepe - Goal

for me and not just because of yesterday but from parts of last season to i think that skrtel can be reckless..not that im doubting his ability but both him and carra are no nonsense types of players. having these two as the CD pairing doesnt bring me as much confidence as carra/skrtel with agger, just because agger brings a bit more composure
-
yes i know its from that rag and i dont believe what they say - but it's also being quoted on several other sites from the same rag - hence the reason i asked if anyone else has any news on this rather then an assumption that its made up.
-
sorry if its already been said but anyone else heard Lucas to Corinthians - i know its a report from the sun but anyone heard the latest?

like madrid said a couple of weeks ago it's hard to come by a playmaker like xabi alonso. signing aqualani doesnt mean he is a like for like replacment for xabi, i'm sure that he has differences to his game - whether that means being able to score more goals, get forward, move the ball quicker or whatever it maybe. I think we have to look past the fact that we are not going to have a player that will do the same as what xabi did although he'll be playing in the same position, accomodating aqualani will mean our game will change slightly.
-
it was announced on facebook before they announced it on the site..great news just shows that rafa was not only holding his stance on the xabi fee but also finding his replacement. lets hope theres a silva or villa announcment tomorrow..
-
that still works, was thinking the other week xabi will be leaving us in the s*** for the songs! and now we have 2 out of the 4 best midfielders in the world??..."gerrard and mascheranooo"
-
how much has rafa actually spent this season from his transfer kitty? (please correct me if the figures are incorrect) £10mil of the £15mil(ish) from the Keane deal went on Johnson (remainder from what we were owed from crouch) leaving him with £5mil plus what he gets for Xabi approx £30mil £15-18mil on Aquilani £12-15mil + his actual transfer budget to go on an attacker and defensive cover
-
just thinking about xabi, there goes another couple of great songs we like to sing..thanks for that xabi
-
man city have a few strikers that they probably need to get rid of: bellamy, benjani, bojinov
-
mind games have started..fact...
-
he'll probably be quite prolific and score some great goals...in pre-season
-
soz when was this press conference this morning? havent had a chance to see it myself.
-
Nando Torres or Stevie Torres as they get on so well..
-
anything on the mascha situation? all gone a bit quiet at the mo which im hoping is a good thing, yaya signing a new contract, talks about cesc. however you cant be so sure with either of these spanish clubs this summer.
-
2 strikers? torres, kuyt, babel, stevie, ngog, nemeth and pacheco. i think we need an attacker more then anything else rather then a striker that is going to demand 1st team football each week
-
haha Rafa immediately sends in his reinforced spanish speaking muscle.
