Equivalent in games versus the top eight under Kenny last year: At home Liverpool 1 - 1 City Liverpool 1 - 1 United Liverpool 3 - 1 Newcastle Liverpool 0 - 0 Spurs Liverpool 4 - 1 Chelsea Liverpool 3 - 0 Everton Liverpool 1 - 2 Arsenal W3 D3 L1 Points 12 F13 A6 Away Arsenal 0 - 2 Liverpool Chelsea 1 - 2 Liverpool Spurs 4 - 0 Liverpool Man City 3 - 0 Liverpool United 2 - 1 Liverpool Everton 0 - 2 Liverpool Newcastle 2 - 0 Liverpool W3 L4 Points 9 F7 A12 Total: W6 D3 L5 Points 21 F20 A18 Comparison: W1 D7 L6 Points 10 F17 A26 It's abject in comparison to last year, and that's with league form that was deemed sufficiently s*** to justify sacking the greatest figure in our history whilst completing ignoring the cups as if they didn't exist. We also beat City away and drew with them at home in the League Cup semi-finals and beat United and Everton in the FA Cup run.

Who in the f*** signs this s*** off?

Enrique has the raw ability to be a very good full back. He's rarely beaten by a winger, but he's absolutely f***ing useless going forward. I've no idea why someone hasn't told him to just pass the f***ing ball whenever he gets it. Defensively I don't think he's a big enough issue to warrant throwing a few million at someone else.

With today finishing our season's games against the other teams "in and around us" and where we aspire to reach, I thought it might be worthwhile to look at our performances against these teams. Today's game against Everton highlighted some rather unwelcome truths, namely that we're consistently incapable of both a) breaking down sides that are well-organised and defensively compact and b) when we do, preventing them going up the other end and scoring themselves. At home Liverpool 2 - 2 City Liverpool 0 - 2 Arsenal Liverpool 1 - 2 Man Utd Liverpool 0 - 2 West Brom Liverpool 3 - 2 Spurs Liverpool 2 - 2 Chelsea Liverpool 0 -0 Everton F8 A12 W1 D3 L3 Points: 6 Away West Brom 3 - 0 Liverpool Everton 2 - 2 Liverpool Chelsea 1 - 1 Liverpool Tottenham 2 - 1 Liverpool Man United 2 - 1 Liverpool Arsenal 2 - 2 Liverpool Man City 2 - 2 Liverpool F9 A14 W0 D4 L3 Points 4 Summary: F17 A26 W1 D7 L6 Points: 10 It wasn't until I looked at the above that I realised how poor our form was against these teams. It's not even close to good enough if we have genuine hopes of challenging for the top four.

Rafa Benitez - Napoli Manager
MFletcher replied to Rory Fitzgerald 's topic in General Football Discussion
He's managed to have "the media" acknowledge he's doing a very good job. If they finish in the top three/four and win the Europa League, he'll have done wonders for his reputation in "this country", at least with media w*****s. He's just great at his job. -

Henderson's playing well, but it makes you wonder why it took him so long to actually get a decent run in the team. Many of us were saying he should have been playing months ago. He also needs to stop hooking him given he's generally contributing and actually demonstrates a bit of energy on the pitch. -

I don't really see what Borini's good at apart from, as Mike says, a poacher role. Which is fine if that's what he's going to be used for, but trying to get him to be anything else is just a waste of everyone's time. I'm not quite prepared to write him off as a complete waste of money just yet as we can probably make use of him, but he was far from the player we needed/should have bought with that £11M-odd in the summer and the fact we've spent the whole season (when he has been fit) shoving the square peg into a round hole is galling. Sturridge is, in footballing terms, completely dense. He really has no idea when to pass/shoot at the correct time. He gets it right sometimes, but 80% of the time he just doesn't do what he should. It's infuriating to watch. -
We've spent £40M-odd net since the summer, including £30M+ on new players for the attack. We should be better going forward against teams which can defend. I's alright sticking six past a shambolic Newcastle defence, but the fact that we've only won a single game against the top eight is indicative of the very obvious, irrefutable fact that we're consistently incapable of "penetrating" the opposition and then maintaining our defensive solidity. Beating the s*** is fine, but you need to look like you're capable of doing something more than once or twice a season against teams who are actually well organised for ninety minutes.
-
Borini for Henderson didn't work and the former contributed little, whilst I've no real idea what we were at with Skrtel on for Downing. Presumably it was to go 3-5-2 with wing backs pushing up but they were pushing up anyway and it meant one less player in the attack. Still, we were s*** and didn't deserve to win. Quite disappointed given the win last week, thought it was a chance to build on that. Remains one win all season against the other seven teams in the top eight - we're just not good enough against teams that are capable of defending well.
-
I don't really see what Borini's actually good at, and Sturridge is, in footballing terms, dense. Coutinho is a huge success.
-
I don't especially trust Rodgers to do that, if I'm honest. Not that we'd buy Konchesky-levels of s***, but going and chucking £12M+ at someone like Ashley Williams with the money would be mildly upsetting. We'd probably do that actually, sell Johnson, promote Wisdom/Kelly and throw the money at a centre back.
-
Incidentally, I don't have a problem with selling Johnson if we buy someone who we think will contribute more. My problem would be selling him on the basis of a financial rather than a footballing argument. f*** that.

You get away with players like Downing when you have a defence that doesn't concede many and a striker who scores in seemingly every game for the first five months of the season. As it is, he doesn't contribute enough within the current context of the team to justify being in the first XI next year. -

Why would we turn it down whenever we could play the reserves and probably muddle through the first couple of qualification rounds? What do we have to lose?
-
He was being played on the wing, there wasn't much he could do.

No evidence to suggest that Allen is a better footballer than Henderson. None.
-
Joe Allen has been poor. He might turn out to be alright, but I don't see him as anything more than a squad player - certainly next season, anyway. If we're going into next year with Joe Allen as a fixture in midfield without a significant increase in his performance level then we're in bother. He's been dire since around November.
-
I'd rather we spend big money on a top class centre half. Any midfield solution which means Joe Allen isn't starting would also be welcome. As it stands, I think I'm happy enough with Lucas/Henderson/Gerrard starting as the midfield three next year. I reserve the right to change this opinion the next time we lose.
-
He has been brilliant. I'm just hoping there isn't a touch of the Arshavins about it all, but the signs are looking very, very good.
-
It's quite clearly something that someone has made up to fill column inches.
-
Great, great performance. Coutinho is f***ing brilliant.

Have any posters broken someone's jaw with a snide punch from behind? That's a nine week ban right there.

We should take the place and actually try and win the bloody thing.
