We booked on Airmiles. Out Monday, back Wednesday Lufthansa Manc/Munich/Istanbul 2,500 miles, £97 taxes. I'm told this gaff is OK and on the strength of Lenny the Lout's recommendation we're booked in. Shame about the name though! http://www.romancehotel.com/
Houghton was a good player but he wasn't outstanding. He was playing with outstanding players though and he was a vital part of the side at times. He could be inconsistent and give the ball away a bit but he had an eye for a pass, scored some important goals (at the Pit in the Cup!) and usually worked very hard for the team. And he wasn't part of the best midfield four either. That was in 1978-79.
Gerrard stagnated under Houllier who worked him like a mule to cover the difficiencies of a poor squad. There's still evidence of that when Gerrard tries to do too much but he now developing as he should. He does not dominate every big game the way Souness did. Nothing intimidated Souness and the bigger the occasion the better he was. He would have laughed at Keane, Veiera and Chelsea if he was playing now. Not one player ever got the better of Souness. Kenny is quite simply the finest ever to have had the privelege of wearing the Liver Bird though.
A pessimist speaks Bellamy and Pennant end up in clink. Peter Crouch becomes our first no-goals-a-season striker since Erik Meijer. It's all tongue in cheek but they forgot Spit the Dog.
My lads have been on since then as well. Until the TO stop people "renting" ST´s the list won´t shorten. I think keeping hold of a ST when you don´t want to go anymore is a bit weird anyway. Just let go FFS. I have so many contacts built up over the years that I can always get a ticket if I need one. But I refuse to buy tickets on my ST to build up loyalty points unless I´m going. When I get asked for spares I rarely have enough credits anyway-I always get asked for the usual suspect games and I´m either going or don´t have enough credits. And I´m clocking you now RP
That´s a bit naive isn´t it? Watch the ticket exchanges on all the forums when we play away midweek at Pompey, Sunderland or wherever. And Euro aways-don´t get me started. In Seville last year there were so many spares you could get one for free. People just sell the tickets on.
Of course Basil. If he made this mess he should tidy it up. If you have the loyalty you deserve the tickets. The only problem as ever is that whoppers with no intention of going to games will buy tickets up to get their "loyalty" points. Not fair that, is it RP?
If it's not safe or being redeveloped we could be excluded. It happened at Old Toilet when Cantona made his comeback and we only got a handful of tickets at Blackburn the day the Grand National went west. Not sure I'm happy with the track record of Safety Certificates in Sheffield though.
A legend? Messing about at training, being disrespectful to one of the Club's most loyal servants and generally taking the pish big time? A waste of a XXXL shirt and the type of player who made me cringe with embarrassment. No wonder we were hopeless back then.
Yellow, yellow, It's time for you to go, Yellow, yellow, It's time for you to go, Unless the ref is Graham Poll, Then you get one more chance, ....struggling to finish it. Mmmmmmmm Wolf Blass. To the tune of (is it) Billy Boys, the Rangers thing.
He's good in England but he's not that mobile. Like Steve Bruce for the Mancs, Terry has an excellent holding midfielder protecting him from pacey forwards. He has struggled in the Champions League at times. Some European clubs would want him but he's not complete enough for say Milan or Barca. To me he's Terry Butcher reincarnate.
I think some players can justifiably be praised but there are plenty who are being called "world class" after two or three good games. I know it might seem like a Lumplard witch hunt (and hey, why not?) but what's he ever done of note in the Champions League or in a big international game? It applies to other areas in football as well: look at the alleged candidates for the England job, Stuart Pearce for example. Not that long ago John Gregory was being tipped as the next big thing-where is he now? Incidentally, don't answer that, I don't want to know! Rooney has all the ability to become a great player but I would be concerned about the number of games he's playing at his age and the burdens placed on his shoulders by both club and country. We saw it with Michael Owen. I know his latest injury was pure bad luck but at 26 or whatever he is his body is already creaking from over playing at a young age. Rafa wouldn't flog Michael like Gerard did and Ferguson and Eriksson have no real option but to do it. He looks average though because he's not really fit and that's no surprise after his injury.
If he'd got that injury six weeks earlier we would have finished second, no problem. He carried that shower. English players are always over-hyped. All the claims about him being the best in the world are over the top. He's very good, yes, but he needs to improve. He would do that with better players around him and with a better Manager than Ferguson who is past his sell-by. His lack of fitness and the desperation of that clown Eriksson have meant he's been below his best. Looks like he'll be played out of position today as well. The power of the PR machine in England can't be overstated though: it got Lumplard voted second best player in the world when he's not even the second best player at Chelsea.
I haven't seen enough of Tevez to make a fair comparison but he looks like he's similar in style to Rooney. He's already been South American Footballer of the Year and Corinthians paid a record fee for him so he's no mug. He's clearly more experienced than Rooney. Messi is a different player to both of them and just oozes class. On what I've seen if I could have any one of the three I'd take Messi. The Owen and Rooney comparisons are interesting though. Barca have used Messi sparingly but Owen and Rooney at very young ages have been playing week in week out carrying their Clubs to a degree and even being seen as the saviours of the national side. I can't see them two playing at 35.
