But that's what he's supposed to do. Moreno goes up the pitch with sterling, the centre halves split and gerrard drops between them. Lucas drops behind moreno and sterling. But because sterling, gerrard, lucas, and moreno were all in the same area, once they got past that lot they had a free run at our out of position defence. Gerrard should have been between the two centre halves to block that through ball, so Lovren could stay with their forward.

To me it looks like gerrard is playing attacking mid when he should be playing anchor, no? The other two look in the correct position. Lovren and Manquillo have had to come across to cover for the hole left by gerrard. Or am I getting everyone confused?

Lucas wasn't playing defensive midfield, he was playing on the left of the diamond. He was in the right position. It was gerrard who was caught out.

Borini seems to create space for Mario. WIll be needed against these.
