  1. There seems to be a growing trend of revelling in Pennant doing badly (not that I think he is doing particularly badly at the moment). He's obviously widely unpopular, but it's not fair, and doesn't really reflect well on fans, when people say he's 5hit even after he's had an OK game. He didn't do badly today, and is certainly getting better (he's still only young). To say that he was 5hit today even though he played better than Kuyt, Riise and Hyypia, is unwarranted IMHO...
  2. Just to confirm; you thought Kuyt had a very good game?
  3. Imagine how long Reed's contract extension would have been if they weren't playing like the worst team ever to grace the Prem!
  4. For sure, Kuyt's lack of cutting edge was more apparent because he and Bellamy were working together to create openings in the first place, if that makes sense. Superb link-up in the opening half when they produced about four one-twos in succession!
  5. Reina 7 Finnan 7 Hyypia 6 Carragher 7.5 Riise 5 Pennant 6.5 Gerrard 7 Alonso 8 Gonzalez 7 Kuyt 5.5 Bellamy 8.5 Garcia 5 Aurelio 5 Crouch 6
  6. Agreed. Looking confident and brings us real quality. Hope Kuyt's not going off the boil - wasn't a great perf from him today.
  7. SHABANG! Stevie G - 3-0. Beautiful curler!
  8. YYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSS. Bellamy - 2-0
  9. Here we f'ing go. Curtly Ambrose blasts just over! Bent just wide! Kuyt off (fair enough, he's been poor), for Aurelio (eh?!)
  10. This is doing my fricking head in!!!
  11. Hit a good chance against the post. Hasn't been particularly incisive. Just put another chance wide
  12. We really should have the game sewn up by now. I can't remember us playing many teams weaker than this in the Prem. It's almost too easy. We've broken them down at will, virtually every time we have had possession, but have played a poor final ball or given the ball away at the last far too often. Bellamy and Gonzalez have been impressive, Gerrard and Alonso are easily bossing the midfield, Pennant's also done OK, but Kuyt's looked a bit short of confidence on occasions. This is so easy for us, yet Charlton are still in it and have the potential to threaten us going forward via Rommedahl, Bent etc. Hyypia has had one or two wobbly moments and Riise has been very weak in defence (maybe worth looking at Agger for the second 45). We've got to get more shots on goal - the Charlton midfield/defence is so weak, I can understand why we're trying to create tap-ins - if we don't, I've got a horrible feeling they're going to sneak an undeserved equaliser (it happens to us so often away from home). If we get a second, I can see another 4-0!
  13. I expected better from Carragher, Agger, Alonso, Fowler and Riise. Obviously can't criticise the youngsters - but it would have been encouraging had one shone. We had enough experience out there to avoid being beaten by woefully poor opposition (not that the result is of much consequence, of course)...
  14. Bellamy Pennant (rest were gash)
  15. I'm just astonished at how bad we (first-team players) are capable of playing at times. Always solid enough to avoid drubbings, but now and again our passing is beyond pony.
  16. Probably because he supports Liverpool and doesn't want their players to play s****. Just a hunch, like...
  17. Never mind the circumstances, this is a shambles of a performance. Conference-standard by Riise, Paletta, Fowler. Oh well...
  18. Can I shock you. I like wine. Also, I would hope big transfer funds wouldn't mean we'd just target superstars - it would demean future successes if we did. We've already plenty of quality in central midfield, but if we played three in my 3-5-2 formation, we'd need quality cover. Barton would be good enough to start when necessary, and the fact he's still young and yet to play for a really big team/get picked for England would hopefully mean he'd be OK coming on from the bench now and again.
  19. Humour me!!! ----------------- If we did get significant funds... Next summer's buys: Micah Richards (if not ludicrously priced), Daniel Alves, Joey Barton Longer term: Maybe look to strengthen left-back/strikers, depending on how Riise, Aurelio, Bellamy perform -------------------------Reina-------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------Richards----Carragher-----Agger--------------- Alves------------------------------------------Riise/Aurelio ---------------Sissoko----------Alonso--------------------- ------------------------Gerrard------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------Kuyt---Bellamy------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- Rest of squad: Barton Garcia Crouch Riise/Aurelio Finnan Carson Gonzalez Hyypia Paletta (and other youngsters)
  20. Solid performances throughout the team (thought Zenden was MOM), with the exceptions of Fowler and Bellamy, who I thought had real shockers. Continue to be worried by how we can dominate most games, yet consistently concede glaring chances (particularly away from home) despite the opposition not having much threatening possession. Thankfully Brum's forwards were as ineffective as ours last night...
  21. Reluctantly listened to Talksport yesterday as Radio 5 featured the Mancs. Couldn't believe how sh*te the coverage was and how many bungles the commentators made. Best f*ck up had to be the Watford v Spurs commentator continually referring to the Watford keeper as "Carson".
  22. I'm off to Austria this at the end of July and was wondering if anyone knows Liverpool's schedule when they're out there. I know their training camp's in Bad Ragaz on the 25th - though this appears to be in Switzerland (anyone know whereabouts?) - but I believe they're playing a couple of games in Austria. Anyone got anymore info? Was shocked a few years ago that the small village I stay in each year was invaded by Blackburn, bumping into and chewing the fat with Graeme Souness was just bizarre beyong belief! Hopefully I can get involved in a bit of Oompah music and slap dancing with Djibs and Bellamy this year. Cheers.
  23. Being pedantic, he's not 27 till September. Therefore, not a lot.
