But surely no-one can be at all surprised, least of all the owners of the club. OOTs often get a hard time from fellow Reds at games just for having the wrong accent; I think Hicks can count himself extremely fortunate to have been chased out of the Sandon with, at worst, a beer-stained jacket. Fans are, quite rightly, up in arms at what his family have done/are doing to this club.

I thought he was finished after a terrible start to the season, but he's been immense since. I love Rafa and think people go overboard about him rotating the team, but, with Agger being injured, Hyypia has clearly benefited from a prolonged run.

Like Cole last night, I think Jones is going to be a real handful. He has the pace to undo Sami and Carra, and our defending from set-pieces has been dire of late.

Because he isn't allowed to be a striker. Ninety per cent of the time he receives the ball deep and, with no support, is forced to run at the opposition's entire defence. If only there were some competent wingers/link man he could feed off.

On RAWK, an apparently reliable poster called Cowtown says DIC have suspended talks, for now. Has anyone (fyds/RP/Dave Hodgson etc) heard the same/got any other info/still confident a deal will be struck?

No idea. But I'd be very surprised if the likes of Reina, Alonso, Mascherano, Arbeloa, Aurelio, Lucas, Torres etc (I might be stereotyping a bit with the Latin thing) actually want him to go and are therefore not playing for him. I'd like this to be the case. But I don't think it rings true in this day and age. We can't not sign quality players because they didn't support Liverpool as a kid. Gerrard wanted to leave for Chelsea - that says it all.
