  7. Darren Huckerby got one in the FA Cup (1998?) I think.
  8. I really think one of the reasons Gerrard played so well (2003-4) then was because we had Murphy on the right and he stepped inside to fill the holes Gerrard left when he went forward. If we play with wingers and Gerrard in the middle we leave ourselves open to counters through the centre of the pitch, last seen against Galatasary. If we're to see the best of Gerrard through the middle, the balance of the midfield has to re thought.

    Gerrard

One solution to get the best out of Gerrard in the centre of a 442 is to have a right midfielder that that comes in and covers the spaces that Gerrard leaves when he goes forward. This is what Danny Murphy did really well at the end of the 2003-04 season when Gerrard was really flying. Trouble is I can't think of a player who could do that now. Other than that there's 3-5-2 which is something we might have seen more often if we got Alves as there's no real candidate for right-wing-back if Benitez feels Finnan isn't mobile enough.

  11. Was Walters at Villa? Was Withe ever on our books?
  12. Does Busby count as a manager?
  13. In the Paddock (maybe) in the eighties versus villa. The ball looped up into the crowd and it was coming right near me when this lad in front lept up and headed it back, perfectly into the hands of the Villa centre back Alan Evans (I think). Evans looked up and said 'you're signed!'. Everyone laughed. Oh what fun. These days someone would probably have reported Evans to the police for being cheeky or something.
  14. Iron fist in goalie's gloves No stopping the march of the G14 clubs in Europe. During the European Club Forum last week a five-a-side team, including the Manchester United and Liverpool chief executives, David Gill and Rick Parry, Joan Laporta of Barcelona and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the ECF chairman, beat teams of administrators from lower down the food chain. Parry's goalkeeping earned the player-of-the-tournament award. (Sorry if a Romario)
  15. Stig Ziege Anelka?
