Here's one - George ALLAN (!) From LFChistory.net: George was one of the great goalscorers in Liverpool's very early days. He burst onto the scene in the 1895-96 season with a staggering 25 goals from only 20 league matches as the club won the Second Division championship. Although he never managed to keep the same goals-per-game ratio for the rest of his Anfield career, he still finished with a very creditable 49 from 79 League matches, a further 6 in the FA cup and an additional 3 in the Test matches of the time, which determined promotion and relegation in much the same way as the play-offs do today. Allan moved to Celtic in May 1897, but returned to Liverpool less than a year later. Sadly, he died of tuberculosis when he was only 24 years old. And another: Bernard BATTLES LFChistory.net again: Bernard played twice in Second Division matches at the end of the 1895-96 season but also played in 3 of the 4 'Test' matches at the end of that season, games which decided the promotion and relegation issues of the day. His only other appearance for the club was at home to Bury on 31st March, 1898 in his second spell at the club. Battles made 3 international appearances for Scotland three years after he left Liverpool for the second time.
