Stop gap appointment as he at 63 years old was given only a 2 year contract. If say Martin ONeill or Van Gaal were to be appointed you can reasonably speculate that they would have been given a 4 years contract. Also Broughton admitted that RH was appointed to steady the ship. If the main criteria for Rafas repalcement was to steady the ship, why Dalgish was not appointed is a strange one.

When RH was appointed alot of comments here viewed it as a stop gap appointed until the future of the club was more certain. So far most of his signings or speculated signings have to be seen as stop gap. Wilson and Shelvey were Rafas, looking after the long term future of the club. Unfortunately that sort of long term thinking no longer suited our current financial situation, where we now we need quick band-aid fixes to the squad and gamble that we can get into top 4 based on these short term fixes.
