  1. ... which is just what Rafa's wanted all along.
  2. Gerard Pique, I imagine.
  3. Indeed. Perhaps experienced wunderkinder aren't quite as necessary when you have a military junta to back you up. Now, there's a thought ...
  4. No problems with your opinion or your reasoning, but the old Maradona didn't make the Argentinian squad in 1978 and he was 18.
  5. Cheers for that. From how they performed against England in Madrid, I'm not surprised that he's X&X mad. However, I'm slightly dubious about Xabi as sole defensive midfielder, hence my question about Baraja. Albelda's still very capable though.
  6. Even without Baraja. Is he injured or just out of favour?
  7. Is there not a chance that Mansion got the bit of publicity they were seeking? Perhaps I've just missed the name, but I've never heard of them previously. Normally, any corporation would seek a variety of advertising avenues rather than pumping huge money into the one (tawdry) basket. A cynical view? You bet.
  8. Has Gabriel Paletta?

To follow the recent spate of Xabis and Pepes?

Bang on. What happened the other week was a non-newsworthy, weekly event ten years ago. One of his main crimes at Arsenal was not being suave. Well, f*** me they can sign Pierce Brosnan, we'll let Jermaine whip them in for Crouch and Robbie (not to mention Dirk and Darren).
  11. Conversely, I don't remember anyone at Liverpool having a bad word to say about Anelka. Another important factor. I seem to remember Gerrard for one being disappointed that he wasn't signed.
  12. Agree with that. I also see him as a people person, able to see and think round the views of others. I voted for Carra but also think Xabi would make it.
  13. I agree about Whelan, think Hyypia rightly gets plaudits that are his due and would add Nigel Spackman into the mix.

Must be before then, Steve Harmison's on as well and he's been in India for the three weeks or so.
  15. Schalke then and to this day was the biggest proletarian team, so I can imagine the 'National Socialist German Worker's Party' possibly subsidising them for propaganda reasons (although I'm sceptical that this is true). Even so, this doesn't necessarily make Hitler a fan. He had no time for football. But he was a big one for stand-up comedy.
  16. Hmmm if the Blackburn game was on October 12th, the memoirs of Brigitte say he was there from November 1912 to April 1913. Moreover, where has this thing about Hitler liking football come from? According to most accounts of his life that I've ever come across, the only football match he can ever be remembered to have attended was the Germany-Norway game during the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. The German side was expected to do well but lost this first round encounter.
  17. I can't better that.
  18. I don't mean to piss on your bonfire too much mate, Uncle Bob deserved a knighthood at least as much as any other figure in footballing history. But I'm a bit of a pedant. Real Madrid, Benfica, Internazionale, Ajax Amsterdam, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Notts Forest and AC Milan have all won it back to back. I don't know how many had the same manager whilst doing this, but it's difficult to imagine too many being sacked having just won the big one. Top rant though and fully justified.
  19. The 1990 World Cup Final winning penalty was taken with his right foot and he was a left wing-back, so I guess so. Gordon Cowans was the most two footed player I can remember, he took free-kicks and corners with both feet. Not seen many do that no matter where they're from. Other than Gianfranco Zola perhaps.
