  1. Wouldn't it be funny if Martinez used us as a bargaining tool for his current job The owners should just drop whatever prejudice or perception they have of rafa and give him a call
  2. That's my take, too He's our manager, really, can't see any other way outta it now
  3. Don't see how you need to have a press conference planned three days in advance to do that He could just tell Whelan to turn us down for him. It'd be all over England 3 mins after he hang up the phone
  4. He can easily hold a press conference at Wigan on how he's decided to leave and thank Whelan and Wigan for their time etc etc etc
  5. Erm no, not in a million f***ing years. Just saying that sometimes the obvious basic things are what's more effective Plus it shouldn't be about money though, sure, the top managers are gonna be more expensive, but if they get you in the CL then it pays for itself. Martinez might be a cheaper option, but you could end up losing money coz of mediocre positions and less sponsorship opportunities. Or he's gonna win the league. It's a big gamble We shouldn't be choosing a Liverpool manager coz one of them's gonna cost way too much
  6. You only take a big risk when you need to take it. When there are other top managers around who have already proven they can do what Martinez could potentially do (without the 3 mil pay off), it's crazy to go for the riskier option Arry Redknapp has gotten Spurs in the top 4 by doing the obvious things, signing obviously good players, without taking too many crazy risks like signing David Bentley for 12 million
  7. Brendon Rodgers is a proper nightmare
  8. A few of those things I didn't actually say, but apart from finishing 8-0, don't think any of those scenarios are too completely over the top, it's within the realms of possibility with where we are right now Think the way they've gone about it, certainly have raised doubts about the process for a lot of people. Let's say, if you wanna get the best available man, then you explore every possible options, the fact that they haven't even bothered with Rafa kinda puts doubt to that
  9. That can't be further from the truth. I have long acknowledged that he could turn out to be a top manager, but he is just as likely to flop like a dead fish. There are other managers who are already top class out there who are less of a risk
  10. If you aren't going over the top then I don't think anybody are. Basically you're agreeing with me but somehow still made some sorta discord outta it, very weird I dunno if we have more resources than Spurs, but they certainly have far the better squad. We are not competing with Newcastle, they're irrelevant. We're competing with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea I'd trust someone like Van Gaal to at least fire us up there for the short term, then we can get someone boss when he pisses everybody off and we are in a far better position than we are now
  11. So you think people are going over the top (and they probably aren't), so you rebuke them by going over the top yourself, right I don't think we have a squad that can challenge for the top 4, maybe 6th or 7th is where we should be, and that's only a few positions back from where we are. We're facing teams far more loaded than we are who already have great squads, which type of manager you'd rather trust to close that gap, an experienced one having a great CV or someone who might have talent but hasn't shown it yet? This is where you're missing the point, it isn't solely about experience. It's having the resources to compliment the talent, Rafa had that at Valencia. Martinez is being asked to transform a squad not capable of getting top 4 atm with one that will, having significantly less resources than those already at the top, and also no experience in doing so. In a way his challenge is greater than Rafa's at Valencia, which is why it isn't analogous. Who would you rather have taking up that challenge, Martinez or someone like Van Gaal?
  12. They had a squad that made two CL finals prior to Rafa taking over, it was one of the really good squads in Europe. 4 points from the league two seasons before Rafa arrived You're missing the point, that's exactly the problem. Valencia had resources for Rafa to achieve their goals, atm we are some way short and would rely on some magic from the new manager and a load of investment in the squad (which is probably not gonna happen), Martinez is inexperienced in doing so and is a huge gamble as a result If you have doubts yourself then you really shouldn't be barking at other people, people are just rightly questioning it Some options are bigger gambles than others, which is people's point with Martinez. There are other options with a proven track record that are less of a risk. The club's at the crossroads right now, we can't take unnecessary risks
  13. We should be aiming for it straight off though, we're in trouble if we don't. Our current best players will leave for other CL clubs. We can't keep relying on the Liverpool brand if we're out for it for far too long, it'd become more and more difficult to get back into it the longer we're out As much as it's lovely to have a long term view, the best thing for us long term is getting back to the CL asap.
  14. That Rafa had the resources to be successful straight up there, their squad could win the league already. Martinez is gonna come to a club with an average squad languishing midtable, who hopes to be top four or title , and take them back to the top four asap, without ever having experience in the top 4, or in Europe It's a big gamble, anyone who is barking at other people for having doubts over it is being a bit rich
  15. Rafa went to a Valencia squad that had one of the best squads in their league and some brilliant players Our squad is nowhere near that
  16. To be fair, Wigan always played good stuff everytime I watched them last season, when they were getting pantsed or winning But I'm sick of this losing pretty s***. There's only one style of football that matters and that's a winning style of football, if that's achieved with 10 behind the ball or centre backs bombing on, one way or another. We need a winner as our man and Martinez isn't yet, and shouldn't test that out on us
  17. If Moses is... well Moses, then Messi is Jesus. So Joe Cole is Jesus
  18. And Joe Cole coming back is our new Messi?
  19. We should throw everything to f***ing get him, everything
  20. It's a convenient news story though, Guardiola declares that he's available, Liverpool needs a manager, journos make up stories
  21. I'd do a 10km nude run if it happens It has to happen
  22. Still think Martinez is a cert, mind. Owners are coming over coz they're announcing something. Don't think they'd ever fly all the way themselves to interview a few chaps, they'd make them go over to them instead
  23. Kick it long and high, no fannying about Mood is lowered? Just f***ing use normal human language, you c***
  24. I'd chip in to make sure it happens, even if it's only a penny The bloke is a class act Oh, and you don't have to pay 3 mil for him either
