I don't think that's the case, Rafa would never tell someone to not track back to save his legs, that's stupid. If he's to tell him to conserve his energy, it would be more likely that he'd tell him to be more intelligent and selective with his attacking runs from deep, which is also another thing Gerrard doesn't do all that well
