Any player on the winning side in a totally meaningless pre-season friendly should be fined. You inevitably learn more from a defeat than a victory so the result of such a fixture should be regarded as completely irrelevant and other elements, fitness, sharpness, cohesion etc, should be the only things to gauge. Anyone going into match commentary or critique-mode for such a fixture should learn how to count their toes. Properly.

I think £780 is, frankly, disgusting. Given the garGANTuan millions coming in from TV and other sources of revenue, to fleece fans to this extent at this time of financial constraint is scandalous. It's in line with the new owners' philosophy, of course. Season tickets for their Boston baseball team are the highest price in the sport in the US. And people referring earlier to how much they had to pay to get in to certain grounds ten years ago; my first visit to Old Trafford was at the price that represented exactly one fortieth of my weekly wage at the time. If that still applied now and I earned 40 times next season's ticket prices at Anfield, I'd be on £99,840 per year. How many reading this earn that much? How many players earn that much AND MORE in a week? And since we're paying for what we get, surely it makes sense to REDUCE ticket prices seeing as we're not in any major European competition? The less successful the product, the more the price has to come down. Unless they are exploiting the fans' limitless capacity to delude themselves with the concept of 'loyalty'?

Aye, that was very strange (for Anfield, like). There was only two though, that I counted, and they were each at the corners on the Main Stand side. There wasn't one beneath us at the Kop end of the Kemlyn and I didn't see one at the Anny end either.

All due respect, that's a load of s****. If he lacked commitment, how is it he had a couple of head/face injuries and went in hard and ended up struggling his knocks off? He went in hard when anyone lacking commitment would have done exactly the opposite. You can't knock his performance today. It was fine.

I'm an optimistic sort of person and I convinced myself of the good things about relegation when that spectre emerged earlier this season. Less messing about with kick-off times and days. More grounds to visit. Fewer BIRGs (people who Bask In Reflected Glory) to glom on to us. A real test of true support. That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger, and all that. We would almost certainly have been looking forward to an unbeaten season of rolling aside all the inferior opposition sent to play us. See, every cloud has a silver lining!
