I know this thread is about Alves (and The Chunk's new found sensitivity) but for all the money at Chelsea, the problem of left back is their as much as anybody elses. If 'Baldy' does end up there in two seasons they will have had him, Del Horno, Bridge, Gallas, Ferreira and Carvalho all play there - maybe offer them Djimi?

Applying this logic, we might never have seen Ray Kennedy in midfield. Coaches, managers etc scout/see players who can do what they want iside their team system. If, and it is a big if, he signs it is because he will fit into how we play, the league we play in and he will add something to the squad we do not have. Also, he will fit within what ever budget we have.

Excellent, we got to page before VdV was mentioned. FWIW, I'd be happy with Defoe - goalpoacher, greedy in the box, looking to kick on in his career and at the right age.

My view on the man - always thought he was the best of his generation, the World is now beginning to understand that too. Not a midfielder per se but a player that is excellent at any position and as such is likely to influence a game because he will be involved throughout. Other than my dad, not really one for heroes - but this bloke is the nearest thing to one - and Roy of the Rovers!!
