Like I say, gut feeling. Him submitting a transfer request (theoretically) saying he wants to leave for CL football to further his career, we didn't offer that, so they say no. Now it's a different story.

I still have a gut feeling that VVD has been told that he can leave, but only for a club in the Champions League. I have no real basis for this logic and it could well just be the chilli I had last night, but I still feel that we'll get VVD and that last night sealed it. We're desperate for a leader and organiser at the back since missing the likes or Carra and Sami. VVD seems to be able to fill this role. I'm still hopeful.
