Generic transfer window <insert season/year> thread
George Costanza replied to growler's topic in Liverpool FC
yep. especially when there might not be a queue of players willing to go to the Ukraine at present They are a wealthy club & well within their rights to ask for top dollar If we really want him we will have to pay what they want Is he worth £35m? No he probably isn't. Would he improve us - absolutely yes. -

Brendan Rodgers, Our ex-Manager
George Costanza replied to Duncan Disorderly 's topic in Liverpool FC
He's had his wonder season mainly thanks to the brilliance of Suarez. This season & his first is what we will normally get from Rodgers -

Not sure if it's true but I'm sure I read somewhere that his Dad said he more likely to go to Germany and play for a team like Gladbach, Leverkusen or Wolfsburg where he will get regular football at a decent level to continue his development than sign for a 'big' club and probably be a bit part player.

Still has a role to play just shouldn't be that often. Individually he's played better than most this season just that his inclusion unbalances the team. Others are having to pick up the slack that he cannot do. I don't think it is helping anybody that Rodgers doesn't seem to know what system he wants to play and keeps chopping and changing. IMO we have continually looked better playing 2 up front. So when all are fit it should be 2 from Sturridge, Balotelli, Borini & Lambert. Behind them we need creativity and a nuisance factor so it should be two from Lallana, Coutinho, Sterling & Markovic. Behind them we need a combination of solidity + energy so its 2 from Gerrard, Lucas, Can, Allen & Henderson. That should be the blueprint we go from & within that we have lots of options & different qualities.

there are 3 irish bars I know of that will probably show the game. On on Wenceslas Square. One on the far corner of the square near the Astronomical Clock in the old part of the town and another just over the Charles bridge
-
I really don't rate him at all. Decent shot stopper but he has no command of the defence or even his 18 yard box. A Belgian Shay Given
-
3rd game of a tough start to the season. I'd take a point right now. That said if we can cope with their high pressing game, their high defensive line could be exploited. Its not been a great start to the season by us but the first 5 or 6 games are about grinding out results while the team gels & gets fitness. That said a 2nd defeat could be quite damaging to morale & confidence
-
Its not just about the numbers though is it. Suarez was our talisman last season. Obviously we won't know how much on a loss he will be till well into the forthcoming season but its not unfeasible to suggest like many top top class players he elevated the level of players surrounding him. We aren't just going to miss his goals but his work rate, his unrelenting desire to win, his ability to do something out of nothing & just his presence on the pitch meaning defenders focusing more on him than others. So far the attacking players brought in are still well short of what is required for us to progress as a team
-
Lallana will play predominantly centrally as the attacking midfielder in the trio.

Luis Muriel or Roberto Firmino

Sanchez is the closest like for like replacement around imo. Getting him would certainly go some way in filling the void Luis departure would leave. We probably aren't going to sign a 30 goal a season replacement but if we can get someone who can get near 20, hopefully others such as Lambert, Sterling, Borini and the midfield can cover the shortfall. If Rodgers & the transfer committee get it right this summer , potentially we could have a much stronger, more all round team (less dependent on any one player) Get it wrong and we've seen what could happen as with Spurs and Bale.

What is the Champions League worth financially to LFC ?
George Costanza replied to David Hodgson's topic in Liverpool FC
CL is a must if we are to keep Suarez. The extra revenue (should we qualify for the group stages) will also be much needed to help the progression of the team. Longer term when the BT deal comes into effect the prize money each English team is going to get is going to be double what they currently get. Meaning those who are not in it are going to be financially left well behind. The gap is going to get bigger so we need to make sure we are there to profit from it.
