I don't know where I stand on this all but one thing I do know, we look ridiculous if we try to defend this, we cannot be expected to tolerate this kind of carry on - as a club. There was subtle inferences that the club had him in counselling to control his behviour last year and obviously that avenue was closed to him in the most pressure filled environment and he flipped so in that respect its understandable but still inexcusable. One thing is for sure is that this has cost LFC more than anyone - Real and Barca will still happily take him and will be looking to get him for a lot less than what was originally touted as they may realise that him remaining in English football is no longer tenable from the point of view of the player and the club - such a shame as it seems as if he is a nice fella but moments like that just tarnish everything. This is what he'll remembered for and will haunt him for the remainder of his career. So in summary, should we just take whatever is on offer and cash in and get a couple of up and coming stars for a player who is probably just tipping over his peak? Maybe! One other thing, there is a distinct lack of information out there as to when FIFA can impose an outright ban for an on-field discretion like this - I don't think there is any precedent. Will put the club in a really awkward position as any attempt to appeal will look as attempt to defend the indefensible but surely the punishment must match the crime and not be at the whim of the english press - who surely are not well thought of in FIFA circles anyway - so much to ponder!
