I agree Mike, he was pulling the strings towards the end and we looked such a better unit as a result. If anyone doubts this, watch Everton away from last season in which Gerrard put in one of his best ever performances for us.

Yeah he did a solid job, but with how Kelly impressed in pre season, I thought he deserved to be the stand in. He might get a chance midweek if Agger isn't back yet and if Skrtel has complications with his jaw.

I was disappointed to see Kelly not get the nod ahead of Ayala for the Skrtel substitution by the way.

Johnson Reina Yossi

Couldn't believe Yossi didn't start, he was our best player in the last 10 matches of last season. You could see the impact he made when he came on, apart from Torres/Gerrard, he is our only player who can receive, hold and run and eventually provide. He is a must to start on Wednesday. Babel getting stick again but I still believe he has something to offer us. He just simply isn't a winger. We need to accept he is fast and powerful, not much else. Similar to Cisse. I'm worried about our midfield, I still feel Lucas is a weak point and i'd bring Gerrard back into a central role as he was pulling the strings late on. Try Babel behind Torres and just see how they do. Babel has only been given a handful of opportunities up there and I really believe he would do a good job for us up in an advanced central role. Dirk looked tired today and his first touch was pretty awful but we know Dirk can have games like that. Main plus point of the match for me was Glen. He was impressive, very solid and composed. Thankfully we have the Stoke game on Wednesday to bounce back.
