  1. Otherwise this is textbook FSG - leave a position open and unfilled for several months before giving it to the internal employee who was doing it on an interim basis anyway
  2. They tried to speak to Frank De Boer as well, didn't they? Not that I'm trying to excuse FSG of anything. Everything reeks of decision makers not putting in the hours to learn what they're supposed to be doing.
  3. My favourite Kaizer moment
  4. Agreed. Got a ring of Ebbrell and Horne about it too

    Ancelotti?

I'd like to see a Director of Football. Not necessarily one of these, though. I thought it was a terrible mistake to throw whatever long term plan FSG had out the window in the summer (and I think it's pretty obvious they were wanting to go down the DoF route, there were certainly enough leaks to that effect). I think Rodgers has done well and we'll continue to get better next season. He's also not afraid to look to the Academy, which appears another overarching goal for the club. However, there does appear to be a lack of leadership at the very, very top. I don't see many successful clubs without this structure these days (the exceptions being the Mancs and Arsenal, where having a pretty much unsackable manager has allowed them to act long term without fear of having to chop and change).
  6. Acerbic and blunt, He knows his football, Sonny But is Mozzarella sweetened With sugar or honey?
  7. While others decried him as Emperor Nero One yet blamed others as much as our hero “Capello was worse!” He cried, his head in the sand, Jill Dando’s blood still staining his hands
  8. Their crowing will end! Their victory pyrrhic! Hodgson believes, doubting 2Unlimiteds lyrics “Obviously there are limits to what we can achieve here. It would, of course, be utopia to reach for the sky but I’m not so naïve as to make that a short or even medium term target. If people were top ask me whether any mountain is too high I would respectfully throw that question back at them. Would they ask any of my predecessors whether climbing Everest or Snowden was part of their job description? The steepness of valleys is something you should really ask the players about. “ Stuff about Hodgson just writes itself. Pity the non-Liverpool fans who are scratching their heads at this. They're not in on the joke. It's like a secret email ring of hundreds of thousands
  9. Unleashing the wrath of Snap and Whigfield But Jolly Jack Tar refuses to yield
  10. Haha - that's absolutely brilliant. A war poem is exactly what it is. Wellbeck and Carrick all verve and mobility, Hodgson glowing with calm nobility. The Montenegro anthem, moody and dark, England exuding grace on the park. Rooney the lion answers the clarion call Before tragedy struck to leave it one-all. Bloodied but unbowed, Roy refusing to yield When the lion was wounded on a far foreign field As Ollie Holt put it Terrible noise haunts the walls of Podgorica Even the boldest was cowed when they played Baltimora

  20. You see, what you're doing here is taking an outcome (i.e. FSG are investing in youth) then coming up with all sorts of nonsense to back that up. They may have increased funding for the acadamy (I've seen nothing to suggest they have), they may have increased funding for scouting (again, I've seen nothing to suggest this) or forged links with clubs in other countries. All these would be evidence of a long-term plan. Instead, hiring and paying a spoofer, overpaying for Jordan Henderson, and offering contracts to youngsters already at the club (I'll take back Ibe - my mistake there) are evidence of nothing. Put it this way: G&H signed off on young players (Torres, Babel, Aqua, Lucas), as well as signing off on a number of acadamy recrutiments, from coaching (Segura, Borrel, Elias, McMahon, Ablett, Marsh), to playing staff (Ngoo, Amoo, Sterling, Shelvey, Suso, Duran and tons upon tons of others), If I were to say that G&H were looking out for the long term future of LFC by investing in youth and that somehow mitigated the lack of funds for the first team I'd be laughed out of town, yet that's the same level of evidence you've offered up here.
  21. Sorry about the silly vocab. Does "Don't be a t***" work better? First summer, Hicks and Gillet also signed off on a bit of a splurge, netting Torres and Babel. My overriding point is this - they bought the club and ok'd a transfer spend. When those players didn't work out, what was plan B? sack the DoF, the manager, decide to bring in another DoF, change their mind and sack that off, appoint a high risk, talented young coach then stymie him with a prescription of austerity and a ridiculous TV show. These don't appear to be doing a good job at all to me. People are giving them the benefit of the doubt on a whole bunch of things and cherry picking evidence to mitigate the mess they've left the squad in. Seriously... Do you honestly believe that the amount they spent on Commoli's wages is any sort of evidence of anything whatsoever? I think any improvement in the youth system of this club has been through the acadamy system Rafa put in place and, latterly, the willingness of Brendan to play the kids (often out of necessity). I guess the transfer fiasco in August meant we had to fill the squad from the ranks so you might have a point after all
  22. Again, I'd love to see evidence of this, I really would. We have always bought predominantly young players for the first team. There was an anathema under Hodgson when we were buying meat past its sell by date but under Evans (Collymore, McAteer, Babb, Kennedy, Murphy, Berger), GH (Hyypia, Hamann, Heskey, Baros, Cisse, Diouf, Traore, Vignal, Westerveld, Riise) and Rafa (Alonso, Sissoko, Reina, Torres, Masch, Lucas, Agger, Skrtl) we always tried buying players whose best years were (at least on paper) ahead of them. Behave - Suso and Ibe arrived at the club before FSG. If you're honestly praising FSG for giving contracts to two very highly rated youngsters then that's exactly the sort of thing I'm talking about. If we'd let those two walk there'd be any number of clubs who'd give them a deal.
  23. Shelvey, Suso and Ibe were signed under Gillet and Hicks. They may be investing in youth but I've seen so evidence of it whatsoever. If anything, the acquisition rate of players seems to have slowed. I really don't see why people are giving these a free pass. Granted, they aren't as nefarious as the previous two but I don't see much else they've done right Again, I'd love to see evidence of this, I really would.
  24. First time I ever cried after a football game, that was.
