  1. I'm a fan of Can's but this season he has seemed more interested in doing the fun stuff (supporting our counter-attacks etc) than the ugly stuff (tracking opposition runners etc). Hopefully he will snap out of it soon and this isn't the start of him thinking of a future at Juventus.
  2. It's early days but Robertson looks like he has much better end product based on what we've seen so far. I'm looking forward to him securing the LB spot in the coming weeks.
  3. Whoever is playing worst out of the 4 of them?
  4. Yes - the balance of the side is better with him as a forward. Sturridge should only be an option off the bench for us now.
  5. The attention he gets is in part because of the importance of the position he plays in. The player who anchors midfield dictates our play - it's the position of Souness, Whelan, Alonso etc. If he was right mid or left back there would be less focus on how he plays.
  6. You can see that he is the style of keeper that we need - i.e. someone quick off his line to sweep up behind a high defensive line - there was an example of that in the 2nd half. The shot-stopping has to improve, though.

    Defence

He is definitely quicker coming off his line to sweep up and last time I watched him he seemed more comfortable coming into a crowded penalty area to punch set pieces clear. Don't get me wrong - I was pleased he got dropped during the course of last season as he was costing us points but Mignolet is not the answer and I'd like to see given another go.

    Defence

The way we play we need a keeper who is comfortable at sweeping up behind a defence holding a high line and who is aggressive at set pieces - for all his shot-stopping abilities, that is not Mignolet. I'd like to see Karius given another run (and not just in Europe.)
  9. Looked sharp when he came on. Personally that's how I reckon we should use him - as a quality option from the bench.
  10. It was a marginal call - its just that these tend to be the kind of games where he doesn't contribute as much.
  11. I'd play Karius TAA Matip Lovren Robertson AOC Henderson Can Salah Firmino Coutinho
  12. In fairness, he seemed to call Mbappe to PSG early on as well as Neymar.
  13. Duncan Castles seemed convinced earlier this week that's Coutinho would be signing for Barca. Granted he is a Mourinho-obsessed clown but he evidently has some decent sources.
  14. I'm not saying another CB wouldn't be a good idea but a big part of us falling away last year the ANC and lack of squad depth with the goals drying up in the last half of the season.
  15. If the Van Dijck deal really is off the table then we need to pull the plug on any Sakho move and start bringing him back in from the cold.
  16. City and Chelsea not going to bid as we showed our hand earlier when we leaked he only wants to come to us. Transfer limbo.
  17. You may be right but the lack of any talk of a plan B and the fact we are willing to let Sakho go makes me think there may be one last twist. Thankfully all this nonsense is over soon.
  18. Who is the cover/competition for Salah and Mane out wide? If Coutinho is here then he can play on the left and Mane can switch to the right. However if he does go then it feels like we have to switch the system unless we bring someone in.
  19. Reckon he wants Henderson's role and Juve have promised him that role if he signs for them.
  20. The gold standard for the type of role Henderson has in the team is probably Roy Keane in the late 90s before he started to slow down. Another player who was used in a box to box role because of his remarkable stamina before he was asked to use that athleticism in a more defensive capacity to cover teammates and protect against opposition breakaways. Keane's passing ability was underrated - the focus was on the aggression and strength of his tackling. In the years since, the contribution made by Scholes to that era has been overstated. It was Keane that dictated the tempo. It's the passing side where Henderson could add to his game.
  21. At times he could have done better with the ball but he set the tempo of our midfield pressing.
  22. He has the potential to be one of the top all round midfielders of his generation - it would be good if that could be at Anfield.
  23. Fantastic today as he always is in the games against the better opposition. Must be one of the hardest players to disposess in the league - great first touch and superb at shielding the ball.
