We won't get Villa. Think we tried to last summer but he's on the crest of a wave now and probably very reluctant to move abroad. That's assuming we could pay the ( approx ) £20m Valencia would ask for. I think we might get Kuyt and Owen, although if Spurs are still interested in Cisse then it might have to be Defoe

In the Premiership every game should be reviewed afterwards purely to look for off the ball incidents and dives. Obviously it would be with the understanding that results cannot be changed but repeat offenders could face huge fines, bans and clubs could have points docked if their players continue to act unprofessionally. It's the year 2006 and despite all the changes in the rules of the game and the incredibly increase in money, football is still officiated like it was 30 years ago. Linesman are asked to do too much for starters. Then we have the cup-tied rule which basically achieves nothing in the era of transfer windows.

Tell him that the next time we have a direct free-kick on the right side of the box ( looking towards the goal ) to have Riise or Kewell lined up as though they're going to take it with their left and then he whips it in inside the unguarded near post. Been a couple of opportunities like that recently. Beckham scored a class one like that a couple of weeks ago and had Roberto Carlos fake the shot.

I don't think anyone can argue with that but in my opinion Gerrard has had more poor games than Finnan or Carra in the last 2 years and i expect Gerrard to play better against the big clubs - Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal - if he's to deserve his tag of " best midfielder on the planet ". I am probably over critical of him but that's not to say i don't think he's a fantastic talent, and maybe the events of the last 2 summers have made an impression on the way i look at him. I dislike the blind faith in him. I've watched him play poorly and people have raved about him because he's scored or played a 40 yard pass and i've watched as people have fallen over themselves to declare himthe hero - like against Olympiakos - when i think there were better players on the day. Saying that, i cannot wait for Rafa to buy the quality of right sided midfielder that would compliment the other players in our midfield so that Gerrard can become even better. Lampard's progression since he joined Chelsea and played with quality players on all sides has been incredible. Gerrard hasn't had players like Duff or Robben on either side of him and now Kewell is beginning to play, we need someone to play on the right so Stevie can switch back into the centre. And a forward with the pace, intelligence and finishing of Owen would get even more out of Gerrard and Xabi. No doubt that Gerrard has missed that kind of player.

Yeah but i still can't believe it.

I think we can finish 2nd but how long we stay in the CL will affect our position. If we beat them at the weekend, they'll only have the league to concentrate on from March onwards. 6 wins and 2 draws in the final 8 games would do nicely ! Away games at Arsenal, West Ham and Blackburn could be tricky.

Finnan and Riise were in my top 3 last year and have been very good again this season. Hyypia started the season in excellent form but like almost everyone else has suffered since Christmas. Gerrard has played brilliantly in some games but disappointing in others. Carra seems to have suffered from playing far too much football and making more istakes than usual but still making last ditch tackles and, on the whole, playing well. Reina has been very good and i'm so glad we bought him. Finnan and Hyypia for me so far ( and i've laid into the old oil tanker in the past ! )

He was barely offside at all, not as if he was stood a couple of yards off and started running for the ball like i've seen RVN do. There was a Wigan player next to him. Had the linesman been on the other side it's debatable it would have been given. As i said, if you want to criticise his form or question his performance on Saturday then fine but people are having a go because it was Fowler who was put through. Where's the criticism of Gerrard when he was through and in a good opportunity to put us 1-0 up, only to try and put Fowler in to a questionably inferior position ? The madness escalates when people say it was a bad miss by Morientes and that - without a doubt - every other top striker would have put it away. Kiss my a***.
