This is the key point. Fsg haven't been terrible owners (like glazers or Ashley), but the recurring theme of their time in charge is that they just haven't done enough on the playing side. Imagine what else we could have won (although city's financial doping didn't exactly help)

Depends how serious they actually were. They've kept their name and the league name in the western media, made themselves look powerful / a threat, and potentially positioned themselves for first dibs when he eventually leaves. Could all be considered wins for them, short of the signing itself

Gravenberch is u21 for this season. Would only count as non homegrown for next season, when presumably Matip will have left, so there is scope for one more non homegrown signing (not that it seems likely)

Apparently we did try last summer, but were too late as he had committed to bayern already

They played well, but we are in the same position we have been for a while. Matip is not robust enough. Konate is brilliant, but regularly picks up knocks. Gomez of the last 12 months can be brilliant, can be a liability. We are something happening to Virgil away from looking very short back there - and shock horror, something has happened to him and we looked short back there
