As has been said the defence was poor today. Gave up plenty of chances and the offside didn't work as well as usual. I would put it down to changing both full backs - they clearly aren't as well drilled a unit as the first choice defence. No doubt becasue Jk is still fairly new to Rafa's methods and DT lacks the concentration to do it.

As has been said, Fowler has been quiet. The chance came from a rampaging Momo who laid in Gerrard on the right. Low ball across to Fowler who jinks past two defenders and scuffs it past the far post with his right foot. Villa aren't as dangerous since the third, but they are trying still and are better than they were first half. I think Angel's movement has helped with this - he is playing much better than Baros did. Momo has improved us since coming on, by doing what he does best and freeing up Gerrard.

It was a great hit. Move from the left bqck slot, laid across to alonso. He slid it to Gerrard 35 yards out, in line with the right side of the D on the edge of the penalty area. Shot across and above the keeper into the top left half of the net (ie a foot or so below the top left corner). Unstoppable.

We picked up the tempo after conceding. Alonso corner to the near post, Gerrard unmarked made a darting run to the near post to meet it and flick it in with the outside of his left boot. We need to keep this going for the rest of the match - no more taking the foot off the pedal.

Villa much better this half. Not entirely sure how the cross managed to evade everyone as it went along the 6 yard box leaving a really easy tap in to an open goal for Barry. Probably deserved for the way we came back into it Might be what we need to kick us into gear

Not a great game, goal aside. Villa look clueless on the whole and our pleyers are going through the motions. There is not a great deal of subtlety about our play, although we are knocking it around in front of Villa quite well - just not really going anywhere with it.

No, but with Kewell and Zenden injured and Riise and Garcia rested I could see how it might come about.

Someone who is often overlooked in this debate is Sami - he is quite comfortable on either side and can pass it equally well with either foot.

The way he was playing it was to our benefit he stayed on the pitch as long as he did.

I get the impression that Robbie is basically on a six month fitness test and that is the only factor in play. As Rafa says - there is no doubt over his quality and ability to score goals. Therefore it must be the fitness side they are monitoring and it may well be the case that Robbie isn't at the level they want yet and they need to see if he will get there before offering that contract.

Boumsong left Auxerre on a Bosman - I doubt they are laughing at the fact that 6 months later Rangers got 8m+ for him.
