  1. I've been avoiding threads like this since the night of the game, but there are a couple of things I'd like to point out about the league cup game. 1. Baptista (in his R. Madrid transfer) cost more than the entire Liverpool starting XI combined. 2. Add in the likes of Walcott, Denilson, Song etc and their starting line up cost approx 3 times ours. 3. Arsenal's "great youth system" © the media - the only player produced by them was Hoyte. The other young english player Walcott was anonymous, the rest were expensively assembled having been developed by other clubs around the world. The credit should go to their scouting system and not their youth system. 4. We defended like drains! - bit of a no-brainer
  2. I don't think Didi would have helped last night - we couldn't cope with their pace and movement at the back. Didi was not renowned for his athleticism towards the end of his time with us... Momo and Pepe were the big misses last night.
  3. He was practically flawless in his first season with us and has unfortunately never hit that same level of form and consistency since. We'll always be grateful for Istanbul, but he can no longer be relied upon even as back-up.
  4. Repeatedly failed to hold the line, kept getting out of position, and did added nothing in possession. And old enough to know better unlike Paletta and Peltier. I always look for the positive and usually defend all our players to the hilt, but some of that was inexcusable. I'm off to the gennie for the rest of the week.

    Palletta

Remember he speaks little or no english - that cannot help particularly when trying to defend as a unit. He does look very rough though - I would loan him out to get him games, although who would want to take him after that?
  6. Some bad defending, some bad luck, some bad decisions. Some players I never want to see in a red shirt again:- Warnock Dudek (should have left after Istanbul - this is ruining my opinion of him) and as much as it pains me to say it:- Paletta unless he learns english and goes out on loan for 2 years to gain experience and worst of all, one of my favourite ever players - Fowler
  7. To be fair, with the way players move around these days you won't see many. From a financial point of view players these days don't need them, but it is a good chance for us to show our appreciation of one of our own. If he does what Niall Quinn did with his testimonial money then so much the better.
  8. Depends what you look for in your full backs. Personally I prefer dependable, good defenders and therefore rate Finnan. The only criticism of him I would allow is that he is one paced and can therefore sometimes be caught out by quicker players. I think the fact he is the only senior right back and therefore rarely gets a rest should not be overlooked either. If you want your full backs to play like Roberto Carlos/Cafu then I understand the criticism (by some) of Finnan. Like I said above, that is not what I look for in a defender.
  9. On the bench with Pako, listening to Rafa's constant instructions

  11. The article is utter tosh, but there is a way this could be done. If someone purchased all the other shares AND the unissued share capital (this latter is the key point) they would have a majority shareholding without paying Moores anything - although he would have to agree to the purchase of the unissued share capital.
  12. Reina played central midfield in pre-season. Perhaps Rafa was planning for all eventualities? Got to be Peltier/Guthrie for me and I think it will be one of them against Galatasaray, but in the league when we need points he is bound to play it safer and go for Carra.

  14. Sheffield Wednesday away some time in the 90s. We were pressing for the winner and the ball got cleared into the stand where I caught it about half way up the stand. Matteo was waving for me to chuck the ball down so we could take the corner quickly as we were entering injury time. No pressure! Fortunately perfect throw to him, but unfortunately we didn't nick the winner as the whistle went pretty quickly after. That nights coverage on MOTD finished with the ball being cleared up the stand from the final attack, and they stopped the footage just before I caught it, the feckers.

  22. Didn't he do David Burrows too? Total c***
  23. It is the successful older players from their 90s generation getting manager jobs based on their playing careers. Same thing happened with a lot of ours of the 70s and 80s eg Brucie, McMahon, Barnes, Aldridge, Nicol, Neal, Dalglish, Keegan, Toshack, Lawrenson, etc. By no means were all those obvious choices as managers and some of them proved to be rather s*** at it too.
