somebody from rawk posted this: This is pure hearsay so feel free to give it a miss... Out of respect, people like Rafa are being tight-lipped about a lot of things. But I hear from a friend-who-knows-someone-who-knows-someone-who-knows-someone at Melwood that, while Robbie busted his gut and worked hard in training, his attitude often stunk. He came with a lot of delusions of grandeur and probably put himself in the same category as Torres or demanded similar consideration and treatment ... Not outrightly, but his attitude and body language were often negative and very resentful. As a newbie, he lacked Fernando's humility (and, some would say, supernatural gifts)... Remember a time early in the season when he wasn't scoring and the media thugs were asking why Rafa didn't drop him for a couple games? Well, Rafa tried and tried with Keane and gave him lots of chances. Even when Fergie came out and criticised the deal, saying he was "surprised" anyone would pay 20 mil for Keane, Rafa was indignant and defended Robbie. But eventually he turned against him, mostly because of his attitude. The tide really started turning against Robbie after that horrible miss against Atletico, where he was trying to be too cute. Rafa sort of lost patience with him and publicly criticised him for not scoring that chance. That was sort of the beginning of the strain on their relationship. But apparenly the s*** really hit the fan when Lawro came out in the press claiming that Gerrard had told him Keane was going to be sold. Whether or not Rafa had it in mind to sell Keane from so far back, you and I will probably never know, but this "revelation" put a strain on the relationships in the dressing room. Keane, unable to establish a partnership early on with Torres, became sort of perceived as the intruder/villain who threatened to disrupt the Torres-Gerrard partnership, and he wasn't good enough to be in the same league as them too. Said distant informer also thinks Gerrard was taking an indirect swipe at Keane when he gave an interview saying how FT had set a new standard in terms of the speed at which a foreign player can adapt to the Premier League. He said something along the lines of other new players/foreign players would have fewer excuses. Like I said, pure hearsay. But don't shoot the messenger.
